PPengguna TetamuIt was important to make an awesome first time impression of Solvang to a small group of friends. I hit the jackpot when I chose the Royal Copenhagen Inn. I worked with Ms Garcia, the manager, for the 15 room block. My guests were impressed with the hotel’s convenience to shopping and restaurants. The rooms provided a quaint and homelike experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. Ms Garcia and her staff provided the kind of service to each guest that left us with memories of Solvang that we well cherish for a lifetime. Highly recommend this hotel for your next visit to Solvang!
We were upgraded to a king-sized room which was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bed itself was big and there was a comfortable chair to sit in. There was a nice fireplace in the room which would add to the charm of the room in the winter. The bathroom was slightly small but perfectly adequate. The only thing which let the hotel down slightly was that the room we had fronted on to their outdoor seating area for the restaurant on the property. The night we were there, two ladies sat outside talking long into the night and the windows in our room were not double glazed and we could hear everything they said even though they weren't excessively loud. My suggestion is that you ask for a room at the back of the property. The have a very good restaurant on site too.
The one good thing about this hotel/motel was Julie who managed the front desk. She was helpful and cheerful. If not for her I would give this a zero. We came up to Solvang to get away for a few days and had looked at some of the reviews on this property and thought we would give it a try. First impression is that the outside looks nice and centrally located in Solvang. They also provide you with a continental breakfast across the street at Olsen’s bakery, it is very good. Now the bad. There is construction being done on one of the units in the front which was basically just across from where we stayed and it was a constant noise from 8 o’clock in the morning until 5 PM. This was not indicated when we were doing the reservation. The rooms are very small and the bathroom is no larger then a broom closet. we honestly could’ve put up with that but for the fact that the room smelled like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long while…so I kept the window or door open all the time to get fresh air. The water took 10 minutes to heat up in both shower and sink. Now for the bed…get new mattresses before someone sues you for an injury, yes that bad. I really wish I could have given them a better review but I’m way too old to lie about these things. Unless they redo the rooms, Find yourself another property to stay at. I can’t speak to the quality of the cottages, so that may ne their saving grace.
PPengguna TetamuI normally don’t leave negative reviews but this place has left me with no choice. First of all, this property is very old - something you can’t tell from the pictures on their website. Secondly, as you enter the room you are hit with a very strong smell of cleaning chemicals. The windows don’t open so you are stuck with that smell for your entire stay…sigh!! Next, this place has no reception counter on the premises. They email you the code to the lock for your room and that’s how you enter the room. Which we thought was cool at first, but when we came into our room we found out that the bathroom didn’t have any bath mats…sigh… so the first thing we had to do was to send a text message to whoever the manager was and let her know that the bathroom didn’t have any bathmats. Half an hour later someone brought us the bathmats. Furthermore, the bathroom (which was tiny) had a bad stench that we couldn’t stand. It appeared to us that the smell came from the water tap of the bathroom sink. It was so strong that we felt that the water was contaminated. So to be safe, we decided to buy water from the store just to wash our hands and brush our teeth. We couldn’t risk using the contaminated water - something we’ve never had to do at any hotels in all our 30+ years of travel in the U.S. Due to the terrible stench in the bathroom, and due to the fear of contaminated water, we decided not to shower at night. Instead we decided to cut short our trip and head home first thing in the morning and shower after reaching home. I am not a very picky traveler, but I travel frequently and I expect clean rooms with no odor or smell and clean bathroom with water quality that I can trust. This place didn’t meet any of the basic requirements. Granted, at the end of the day they apologized for the inconveniences and offered 50% off our bill. But we were there only for one night and we had the most terrible experience ever - something no amount of refunding can make up for. Again, I can not stress enough to say that please stay away from this place and do not fall for the pictures you see on their website. Instead there are better places to stay in Solvang such as Mirabelle Inn, The Winston , The Landsby etc.
