✨All Seasons Hotel✨ This hotel offers free accommodation for passengers on late-night flights with Shandong Airlines. We had a connecting flight to Thailand. The airline provides free hotel booking, but you need a Chinese phone number to contact them. You can also arrange it directly at the check-in counter. We chose this hotel because it offers great value and excellent service. The room was beautiful, and although it was a shared room, no one else was staying with us at the time. They provided tea, hot and warm water, and various amenities in the room. It was very worthwhile.

Yuzixi is a vantage location thought to be one of the best places to view sunset shining on a wide stretch of facing west snow mountains. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo However, people are arriving much earlier before sunset not only due to the traffic jam to reach here before sunset, but also because the view seen from here is spectacular even before sunset, especially the view of valley and rolling mountains stretching from here to the foothills of those snow mountains. During autumn (2024), the autumn color of vegetation in the valleys and the rolling mountains were strongly enhanced in red coloration by the evening sun. Shadows of the rolling mountains, and direct sunshine of the setting sun shining onto the side of the snow mountains at the east horizon, enhanced the photography effects of the panorama. Three major snow mountains could be appreciated here, and they were Yala Snow Mountain (to the northeast), Qingrao Holy Mountain (east northeast) and Gongga Mountain (southeast). Yuzixi is often included as one of the destinations in Daocheng Yading tours. It is also one of the most popular attractions found in the vicinity of Xinduqiao municipal. During sunset, at such high altitude, the temperature plummets significantly, so don't slack with winter clothing if visiting here. After sunset, large exodus of people from here would cause traffic jam towards Xinduqiao, so don't forget to bring enough snacks to munch on if visiting here.

Gedilamu (4,100m) is a highland located south of Tagong Grassland. To the east, a valley of grassland was seen. To the south and southeast, rolling mountains all the way to the horizon, were observed. Snow mountains could be seen at the horizon. During autumn (2024), orange grasslands were seen here and from here. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo The valley to the east had wide expanse of orange grassland, with patches of yellow, red, brown and green vegetation at the bottom of the valley, with belts of roads and rivers. These rolling mountains were mainly of red and brown. From Gedilamu, three major snow mountains can be seen, however during my visit, two had shyly covered up behind thick cloud layers. These two are the Yala Snow Mountain (northeast) and Qingrao Holy Mountain (east northeast). At the southeast horizon, were snow-covered mountain peaks of the great Gongga Mountain. Excitedly, Gongga Mountain was not covered up by clouds, the highest peaks were seen slightly poking into the clouds above. Combination of the grassland here, with valley and/or rolling mountains seen from here, and snow mountains of afar, is what made Gedilamu so pretty, and a desirable location for zoom-in portrait photography and landscape photography. Gedilamu is often included as one of the destinations in Daocheng Yading tours. It is also one of the attractions found in the vicinity of Xinduqiao municipal, notably the one which is found south of Tagong Grassland and north northeast of Yuzixi. Yuzixi is only a short distance away, thus both Gedilamu and Yuzixi are often visited one after another. A stretch of road before the attraction was non-paved, very bumpy and windy, so a bit of adventure was needed to reach here.

One may think holy land as a place with shrines and temples, but Muya Holy Land is actually a nature attraction, specifically a long valley flanked by mountain ranges. Come autumn, colors of red, orange, yellow, brown, and green shades with white snow, clouds and blue sky fill the valley. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo Muya Holy Land's scenic areas are at altitudes between 3,600-4,400m, mainly with grassland, shrubs and sparse forests. The valley stretches from high altitude south to lower altitude north. The park was found to be with a majority expanse of undisturbed land, seemed like isolated from the outside world thus mysteriously charming. The highest point of the scenic area has two viewing platforms facing south. From here, higher part of the valley and snow-capped rolling mountains carpeted with red brown grasses were observed. Afar was the Gongga Mountain, a large formidable mountain formed by a group of mountain peaks, the highest at 7,509m, is the highest peak in Sichuan. Below this viewing platform, at lower elevation, was another facing west viewing platform, which overlooked this stretch of the valley that was filled with a variety of vegetations of different colors. Patches of colors and shades of this location gave the impression of Nature's color palette tastefully spilled over the land. Reflection from the twisting river was like a silver belt at the bottom of the valley, seen to be supplied by numerous streams from melting snow of the flanking mountains near and afar. A distance away to lower elevation, was a scenic area with a vast grassland of yellow and red mixes, and a lake. Beyond the lake were grass patches, shrubs and sparse forests of the mountains and foothill of these mountains. The combination gave this part of the valley a variety of colors, less shades than the previous but no less attractive. There was a walkway to cross the grassland to the lake. Muya Holy Land is often included as one of the destinations in Daocheng Yading tours. It is also one of the attractions found in the vicinity of Xinduqiao municipal, notably the one which is found southeast of Tagong Grassland, and east of Yuzixi and Gedilamu.

Tagong Grassland is not only known for its fiery autumn color, but also the snow mountains forming the backdrop of the grassland. This is a large grassland bordered by the state road along the stretches of the west, mountain range to the east, and it is located a short distance south of the Moshi Park. From my perspective, the appeals of this grassland were the grassland itself, the foothill of the mountain range to the east, and the snow mountains to the east. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo The grassland, averaging at 3,730m altitude, was transformed into a red, orange and yellow carpet in autumn, giving the "fiery" appearance of the grassland. In the west, the grassland was a wide vast plain, but to the east, the grassland continued as rolling hills with the same "fiery" appearance. Further east was the foothill of a mountain range, perhaps due to the far distance, appeared as red brown rolling mountains. At the altitude, there is no sighting of tree; I spotted one in the vast grassland, which to me was a precious sighting. Two major snow mountains can be viewed from here. Yala Snow Mountain (5,820m) could be seen towards the east, from the west of the grassland. She stood out as the background of the mountain range, prominently with steep slopes with several peaks. Another major snow mountain which could be seen from the west of the grassland, was Qingrao Holy Mountain (5,305m) to the southeast. She was seen to have broad slopes covered with snow. Tagong Grassland is often included as either one of the stopovers or destinations in Daocheng Yading tours.

In Ganzi, Sichuan, at the congregation of scenic areas around Xinduqiao municipal, to the north is the Moshi Park (Inked Rock Park). These rocks are in grey shades, as though immersed with calligraphy ink, thus the name "Inked Rock". And it was awesome to visit the park in autumn to appreciate the rock forest adorned by the surrounding's autumn display. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo The rock here is a type of rare rock formed inside the Earth, then tectonic activities had somehow pushed it to the surface. Over the years, these rocks are weathered forming an array of interesting structures and texture, with what appears like folds, jagged edges, rugged surface and appearance, and some are rather smooth. At an altitude of 3,500m above sea level, it is a transitional zone from tree forest to grassland. Forests, shrubs and grasses are found here and the surrounding hills, creating autumn shades of green, yellow, orange, brown and red. Wild animals can sometimes be seen here, and chance of viewing is uncertain. The locals rear yak and horses, and these animals can sometimes be seen here as well. I visited the park twice, the second visit (2024) was 10 days later than the first (2023). It was noticed that the yellow display of the hills in the first visit, was redder in the second visit. Notably, the entire park looked redder in the second visit. The photos shown here are a mixture from both the visits. Moshi Park is often included as one of the destinations in Daocheng Yading tours. The nearest village to her is the Bamei village. There are vantage points to view the rock forest from a distance, and there are walkways to walk beside and among the rocks.

Chonggu Grassland is situated just beside the Chonggu Temple visitor center. Leisurely, I walked towards Luorong Pasture direction, not particularly to complete the circuit, but just relaxing sightseeing. Chonggu grassland is a considerably small grassland within a valley, with a gentle river flowing through it. There were ponies, seen beside the walkway, seemed to be as curious of me, as I was of them. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo The trees at the mountain slopes were at the heights of their autumn display. It's as though the trees had conspired on yellow and green, lower bushes on red and dark green, while grasses on reddish yellow; this autumn color theme was seen all along the way. As the grassland ended, the valley became narrower and narrower. Flanking hills and mountains, and their slopes adorned by yellow foliage, with blue sky and white clouds, forming a variety of autumn display patterns. These revolving around yellow as the main color theme, had yet to bore me thus far. Some forested slopes were sparsely yellow, some were almost completely covered with yellow! This stretch I would say, was really focusing on autumn display as the main sightseeing agenda, without particular landmark to focus on. From a distance, Xiannuoduoji and nearer snow mountains could be seen as the backdrop of the autumn colors. Soon, it was getting late into the evening, so I turned back to walk towards Chonggu Temple. As immersed as I was with the autumn air, wild birds and squirrels appeared along the way back, to momentarily stole my attention to them by the walkway. Some were curious of me, others were into their feeding rituals. The sightseeing continued until Chonggu Temple visitor center, where the sightseeing ended... for now. Daocheng is a municipal serving as the gateway to Daocheng Yading. Shangri-la town is a town serving as the entrance to Daocheng Yading. Yading is a village inside Daocheng Yading, just before the scenic areas. Daocheng Yading is a Park known as Yading Nature Reserve, situated in south of Ganzi, Sichuan, China.

Since the trees of the forest had not completely change their foliage color yet in the last autumn, I decided to visit Daocheng Yading or Yading Nature Reserve this year (2024) about 10 days later than the previous year. I was glad that I did, this time the trees have fully transformed into their autumn foliage color. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo In order to have a different experience than the previous visit, I decided on another scenic area, the Xiannairi Snow Mountain. From the Chonggu Temple visitor center, I set out on foot towards Chonggu Temple, a Tibetan temple by the foothill of Xiannairi. It was thrilling to see yellow autumn foliage among green pines beside and behind the beautiful Chonggu Temple, with the ever so majestic Xiannairi in the background. There was actually another route which won't pass by the Chonggu Temple, but I was glad that I chose this route instead. After that, I walked through a trail beside the temple into the pristine forest behind Chonggu Temple. Pines with yellow autumn foliage were everywhere around the trail. Excitedly, I thought this has to be the ultimate autumn display everyone serious into autumn foliage viewing should see! And it was the entire stretch of forest until the trail reach open space at higher elevation, all along in yellow blaze. And there she was, Xiannairi snow mountain, facing the small little me at the open space. Forest at the foothill of Xiannairi and surrounding mountains were a mix of yellow and green. There was so much of mix feeling when facing such grand scenery; excited, appreciative, admiration, respect, and others. I continued walking on the walkway nearer to Xiannairi, an above 6,000 m snow mountain, to visit a lake at her foothill. The view of Xiannairi with Zuomalacuo or Zhenzhuhai (Pearl Lake), and the surrounding autumn foliage display, was intoxicating! The lake has water in various green shades, possibly according to water depth. The end nearer to Xiannairi is deep, while the opposite end away from her is shallow. It's a considerably small lake, and walking around the lake could be leisurely achieved in 30 minutes. There is only one same way in and out of Xiannairi snow mountain, and on the way out, the yellow autumn foliage of the forest was appreciated once more! Further down the foothill, I bypassed Chonggu Temple and reached Chonggu Grassland beside Chonggu Temple visitor center, where my sightseeing continued...
