UNDP’s Stabilization Programme in #CaboDelgado, northern #Mozambique, recently hosted a visit by UNDP Washington Representation Office Director Don Gressett. Don was able to observe first-hand UNDP’s work, carried out in partnership with the government of Mozambique, to restore security, rebuild citizens’ trust in government, and streamline the return of some 1 million people displaced internally by violent conflict that erupted in 2017. That fighting killed more than 4,500 people, disrupted access to basic services, and destroyed public infrastructure. Thanks to support from the #EuropeanUnion, #Germany, #Japan, and the #Netherlands, Cabo Delgado now enjoys a stronger government presence, laying the foundation for improved trust and a renewed social contract with citizens. Don’s visit—the first to Mozambique by a UNDP Washington director—included meetings with UNDP Country Office staff: Edo Stork, Cleophas Torori, and Samuel Akera. They discussed ways to strengthen collaboration with key US-based partners, including the #USGovernment, #WorldBankGroup, #IMF, and other multilateral entities.
