Kia's 2025 EV9 (Kia) |
Sales of Kia’s large-size electric sport utility vehicle EV9 show the product has a stable presence in the US market, with cumulative sales exceeding 20,000 units since its debut in December last year.
According to Kia, the SUV reached cumulative sales of 20,066 in the January-November period this year, making it the best-selling Kia EV in the US. This compares to 1,903 units sold in Korea during the same period.
Strong EV9 sales also drove Kia's monthly sales to a record high of 70,107 units in November, a jump of about 20 percent from a year ago.
Riding high on US demand, Kia also plans to ramp up the car's US output at its Georgia plant. Following the start of trial production in May, the plant produced 1,210 EV9s last month alone. So far, most of the cars have been imported from Korea.
Earlier, Kia parent company Hyundai Motor Group hinted that it would focus on ramping up hybrid production in the US due to a recent slowdown in EV sales. But the carmaker said it is seeking to bolster EV9 production in phases, citing the strong local demand.
