Foreign embassies in South Korea expressed grief over the tragic plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province Sunday morning, resulting in over 167 fatalities as of Sunday afternoon. The plane carried 179 South Koreans and two Thai nationals.
Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed condolences via social media to families of the victims, directing Thailand's Foreign Ministry to urgently verify the status of the Thai passengers and to ensure immediate assistance, as well as provide regular updates.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the families of all those who have lost their lives or been injured in this tragic event,” she wrote.
Among foreign embassies, US Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg wrote on social platform X, "I was heartbroken to hear about the tragedy at Muan Airport this morning. My sincerest condolences go out to the victims and their loved ones, and my thoughts are with the people of Korea during this difficult time."
Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing also wrote on X, “My heartfelt condolences go out to the victims and their families, and I extend, on behalf of my colleagues, our sympathies to those injured."
Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to South Korea Georgy Zinoviev also expressed his grief over the incident. “We were deeply shocked by the tragic news of the passenger plane crash at Muan Airport on December 29,” he said in a statement.
Ethiopian Ambassador Dessie Dalkie also offered sympathy via the embassy’s official facebook page.

In a letter shared with The Korea Herald, Turkish Ambassador to Korea Murat Tamer said that Turkey is deeply saddened by the tragic airplane accident.
“During these difficult times our solidarity and prayers are with our Korean brothers and sisters,” said Tamer.
Singapore Ambassador Eric Teo shared similar sentiments, saying, “On behalf of the Singapore Embassy in Seoul, please accept my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.”
The Irish Embassy in Seoul iterated via Facebook that it was aware of the tragic plane crash, confirming no Irish nationals were on board. "May those who perished rest in peace," the embassy added.
German Ambssador to Korea Georg Schmidt expressed his deepest condolences to the victims and their families of the Muan Airport aircraft disaster.
"My prayers are with the survivors and all those working tirelessly in the rescue efforts, and my heart is with the people of South Korea," Schmidt stated via X.
The Indian Embassy stands in solidarity with the people and the government of the Republic of Korea in this difficult hour," wrote Indian Ambassador to Korea Amit Kumar via X.
The Belarusian Embassy in Seoul also extended its deepest condolences, calling the incident a terrible crash.
"Our profound sympathies to the families and friends of the victims injured in this tragic event,” wrote the Belarusian embassy on its Facebook page.
