About us
Hyphen Hydrogen Energy (Pty) Ltd (“Hyphen”) is a Namibian registered green hydrogen development company, specifically formed to develop green hydrogen projects in Namibia for international, regional and domestic supply. Hyphen successfully bid on and has been awarded preferred bidder status on ~4,000km2 of land within the Tsau //Khaeb National Park for the development of Namibia’s first fully vertically integrated GW scale green hydrogen project. The project is being developed as the first step in the implementation of Government’s strategy for the development of a large scale green hydrogen industry in various regions in Namibia to support both economic growth in Namibia and assist the world in achieving its decarbonisation goals. This US$9.4 billion project is planned to be developed in phases, at full development targeting 300,000 metric tons of Green Hydrogen production a year from 5GW of renewable generation capacity and 3GW electrolyser. The project once fully developed will employ an estimate 3,000 people, with 15,000 construction jobs supported over the four year construction period. Over 90% of these jobs are expected to be filled by local Namibians. Hyphen is a joint venture between ENERTRAG, a renewable energy company and pioneer in green hydrogen production, and Nicholas Holdings specialist investment and project development company with a 33 year track record in Africa.

🚢 Accelerating Sustainable Shipping 🚢 We are proud to join industry leaders across the maritime value chain calling for faster and bolder action to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission fuels for a sustainable shipping future. Our CEO, Marco Raffinetti said: “Maritime shipping connects the world, and the industry has a unique opportunity to lead global climate mitigation efforts by committing to green fuels. Namibia, with its abundant sun and wind resources, can play a vital role in producing these sustainable fuels to not only decarbonise the world's shipping corridors but also contribute to the creation of thousands of green jobs in Southern Africa. We stand firmly behind this call to action. Now is the time to shift from signaling intentions to making concrete commitments.” Launched at COP29 today, the joint statement has been organised by RMI, the UN High-Level Climate Champions, UCL Energy Institute, and the United Nations Foundation. With over 50 signatories, it demonstrates strong industry momentum to invest in decarbonization through scalable zero emission fuel pathways. 🌍 Yesterday, our Chief Operations Officer, Giuseppe Surace, took the stage at ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference to share insights at the panel discussion ‘Green Hydrogen: A Project Developer's Perspective’. Giuseppe and fellow industry experts Simon Flowers Brian Maxwell Alexander Tancock Daniel McArthur discussed green hydrogen’s position as a cornerstone of our low-carbon future and how developers manage factors such as costs, scaling complexities, political support and the financial landscape. They talked about developers requiring a combination of innovative strategies to cut production costs and active partnerships with governments to establish stable, supportive policy frameworks. 💡A key takeaway from the session: securing early and reliable off-takers through strategic alliances will be essential for green hydrogen projects to transition from ambitious plans into tangible, sustainable solutions. Great to be at the heart of this important conversation. #GreenHydrogen #SustainableEnergy #Innovation #ADIPEC #Namibia

We recently visited the SOREXA 10MW solar PV project site at Trekkopje, which is owned and operated by InnoVent’s Namibian subsidiary, InnoSun Energy Holdings. This is one of the first Modified Single Buyer (MSB) initiatives in Namibia, and will likely be the first to wheel renewable energy via NamPower’s transmission system to a private off-taker. InnoSun has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement with Orano to supply solar electricity to its desalination plant, which supplies drinking water to the central Namibian coast. NEC Renewable Energy Corp. is currently constructing the plant, with the first phase of the project expected to be completed by the end of next year. Our visit was filled with valuable insights into both the technical and socio-economic aspects of the project and seeing the size of Sorexa’s PV plant highlighted the scale relative to the energy output that will be needed for Hyphen’s planned 3.5GW solar PV park. We learned a lot about benchmarks for workforce planning and construction complexities, coordination that is needed between various disciplines and teams, and the challenges posed by Namibia’s limited capacity for large-scale projects. We’re looking forward to building on this knowledge through future engagements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and contractors in Namibia. Thank you so much to Alex DELLE DONNE, Yoann Picard and Pol Jestin who so kindly hosted the team on our visit. #solarpv #Namibia #greenhydrogen #InnoSun #hyphen #renewables #renewableenergy
