'Roseanne' actor Martin Mull dies at 80

Mull appeared in 49 episodes of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, 44 episodes of Fernwood 2 Night and 65 episodes of America 2-Night. In a case of life imitating art, Mull would get to be a real talk-show host when he filled in for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

He had a long-running role as Leon Carp, Roseanne Conner's gay boss (and later business partner) on the TV series Roseanne.

He also added his special brand of merriment to films over the years, some of them being decent, such as FM (1978), Serial (1980), Mr. Mom (1983) and Clue (1985) in the role of the tweedy-looking Colonel Mustard, while most have been either formula schtick or just plain drivel, as in Take This Job and Shove It (1981), ...

Martin Mull, a comedic performer with a laconic style and razor wit who mined the eccentricities of Americana in shows such as the talk show satire “Fernwood 2 Night” and also added his brand of wry social commentary on musical tours and gallery shows of his art, died June 27 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 80.
