A growth equity fund investing in untapped opportunities in Nigeria and across West Africa

About us

Aruwa Capital Management is a Lagos based, female founded and led, growth equity impact fund. As one of the few woman owned funds in Africa, Aruwa has identified a significant untapped investment opportunity, investing in rapidly growing and profitable companies that either provide essential goods and services to women or employ women through their workforce or value chain. Aruwa Capital Management was founded on the conviction that the gender imbalance amongst capital allocators on the continent, provides a unique opportunity to invest in untapped segments of the economy whilst closing gender economic gaps across society and generating enhanced returns. With few private equity funds owned or led by a woman in Africa, Aruwa Capital Management aims to change the narrative for women as capital allocators, entrepreneurs, consumers and stakeholders in Africa and globally. The team based in Lagos is led by the Founder, Adesuwa Okunbo Rhodes and combines international best practice skill sets from global institutions with deep local networks, operational know how and on the ground presence, to unlock untapped investment opportunities. The team is made up of investment professionals with investing experience and operators that understand how to run and improve businesses.

#HerQuote | “I believe the way to effectively provide women with more seats at the table is for us to create our own tables. More women succeeding as capital allocators means more women getting funded, more mentors, more torchbearers, and more examples to follow.”  Warm birthday wishes to changing the face of investing and entrepreneurship in Africa one investment at a time, Adesuwa Okunbo Rhodes on Her Birthday! #AboutHer: Adesuwa Okunbo Rhodes is the Founder and Managing Partner of Aruwa Capital Management, one of the few women-owned and led private equity funds in Africa investing into untapped investment opportunities in West Africa in the small to lower mid-market. Adesuwa launched Aruwa Capital Management with her own money in Lagos in July 2019 and left the comforts of a six-figure salary in order to make an impact in society with her skills and track record and change the narrative for women and small businesses across Africa.

Key areas of focus included: 📌 Macroeconomic Outlook & Investment Landscape – Understanding market dynamics to inform our investment decisions. 📌 Investment Strategy & Process – Refining our sector and sub sector focus, portfolio construction, deal structures, and best practices for Fund II deployment. 📌 Portfolio Performance & Value Creation – Evaluating growth drivers, operational improvements, and strategic interventions for our portfolio companies. 📌 Fund I Exits – Structuring disciplined and targeted approaches to high-value exits while ensuring sustainable long-term impact. We were privileged to host renowned industry experts who enriched our discussions: 🔹 Adedotun (Dotun) Sulaiman, Aruwa Capital IC member – Provided valuable insights on navigating investment complexity and exit planning. 🔹 Dr. Abiola Salami – A masterclass on optimising performance and strategic planning. 🔹 Samuel Sule, CFA- CEO of Renaissance Capital Africa – A deep dive into Nigeria’s macroeconomic outlook for 2025 and beyond. • At Aruwa Capital Management, we are uniquely positioned between venture capital and private equity—bridging the gap where many businesses struggle to access funding. Too late-stage or not tech-focused enough for VC, yet too small for traditional PE, these businesses often go unnoticed. With our average ticket size of $1.5–$2 million, we invest in this overlooked segment, allowing us to cherry-pick high-potential winners that others miss. Spotting winners early requires deep market insight, conviction, and a hands-on approach. It’s about identifying exceptional founders, understanding their vision, and seeing beyond immediate numbers to long-term value creation. We’ve backed businesses at a stage when others hesitate, and today, they are scaling, thriving, and driving real impact across entire value chains. But for us, it’s not just about capital. A cheque alone doesn’t build a business, strategic support does. We do not believe in the 'spray and pray' approach. Every investment is intentional, structured to ensure both the business and its leadership grow in ways that create lasting economic and social impact. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with founders, providing operational expertise, market access, operational improvements in processes and systems and the ecosystem support they need to scale sustainably. The right capital at the right time, coupled with hands-on guidance accelerates sustainable growth. And for the entire value chain—from suppliers to customers—the ripple effects of a well-placed investment are transformative. At Aruwa Capital, we are not just funding businesses; we are shaping the next generation of African champions—proving that patient, intentional capital creates sustainable impact. #bridgingthegap #investingwithconviction #earlywinners #sustainablegrowth #aruwacapital

Seeing the Vision Early, Building the Future Together It was a pleasure catching up with the FSD Africa team whilst they were in Lagos over lunch. It was great to reflect on our shared journey and provide the team with key updates on Aruwa Capital Fund I and Aruwa Capital Fund II. FSD Africa through Nyala Ventures, saw the untapped potential of Aruwa Capital Management early, stepping in as one of our first institutional investors in Fund I. Their catalytic support not only validated our vision but also paved the way for other investors to follow. Investing in undercapitalised segments requires conviction, and having a partner who understood the opportunity and importance of local capital providers from the outset made all the difference. We are reminded that sustainable impact is not just about capital, but about the right kind of partnerships. The belief, trust, and long-term commitment from early backers like FSD Africa have helped shape Aruwa’s mission of driving inclusive growth and unlocking untapped opportunities in overlooked segments. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and excited for what lies ahead. Here’s to changing the future the of African investment landscape together. • The Aruwa Gender Lens Advantage: Changing the Investment Landscape Gender lens investing isn’t just a strategy—it’s a movement reshaping how we think about capital allocation, returns, and impact in Africa. At Aruwa Capital Management, we are redefining what it means to invest with impact by focusing on businesses that centre women as leaders, contributors, and drivers of innovation. Despite women forming the backbone of many economies, they receive less than 2% of funding in Africa with funding to women last year reaching a 5 year low. Aruwa Capital is bridging this gap by proving the business case for gender lens investing—showing that capital deployed intentionally toward women-led and women-focused businesses yields outsized returns for investors, families, communities and economies. For us, gender lens investing is about more than just funding. It’s about dismantling systemic barriers and creating pathways for inclusion. We actively support our portfolio companies with strategic guidance, operational support, and governance practices that embed gender equity into their DNA. By investing in women, we are unlocking the multiplier effect of impact, elevating families, strengthening communities, and fostering resilience. This is the future of venture capital and private equity: where investments are not only financially rewarding but also deeply impactful. At Aruwa Capital Management, we are proving that when women rise, everyone rises and when women win- everyone wins. #genderlensinvesting #womeninleadership #impactinvesting #inclusivegrowth #aruwacapital

Climate Action Meets Gender-Lens Investing in Africa At Aruwa Capital Management, we recognise that addressing climate change in Africa goes hand in hand with closing the gender gap. The impacts of climate change disproportionately affect women, who are often at the forefront of managing household resources. Yet, women remain underrepresented in climate-focused solutions and investments. Through our gender-lens investment strategy, we are uniquely positioned to bridge this gap. One of our portfolio companies, Koolboks, is a prime example of how innovative solutions can provide both climate resilience and gender-inclusive impact. Koolboks offers solar-powered refrigeration solutions to off-grid communities across Africa, directly addressing food preservation challenges while empowering women entrepreneurs who can now store and sell products that would otherwise perish. Koolboks, has made significant strides in fostering sustainable development and social impact, particularly in promoting gender equality. Over 700 million Africans lack access to electricity, and through its solar-powered freezers, Koolboks is providing clean cooling solutions to low- to middle-income populations facing rising energy costs. By providing these solar-enabled cooling solutions to underserved communities, Koolboks supports women retailers, who make up 73% of its customer base, while contributing to environmental sustainability. Aruwa Capital's partnership with Koolboks aligns with our commitment to driving inclusive growth and supporting initiatives that promote gender equality and sustainable development. We see this as part of a broader vision: climate action in Africa must include women as key players, and at Aruwa, we’re ensuring that the investments we make, are showcasing that inclusion. #aruwacapital #climateaction #genderlensinvesting #renewableenergy #sustainableimpact #cleanenergy #koolboks #africarising #unga24

Africa has the potential to remain forever young Africa’s demographic potential is unprecedented. With about 64.5% of sub-Saharan Africa’s population under 25, this young cohort represents both a dynamic opportunity and a responsibility for future-focused growth. As The World Bank projects, by 2075, one-third of the world’s population and of its workforce will be African. This makes Africa the only region where the labor force will continue to expand for decades, with over 500 million youth aged 15-24 by 2080 and a working-age population projected to peak at 1.5 billion after 2100. Equipped with the right tools and opportunities, these young people could become a driving force for economic prosperity and transformation. At Aruwa Capital Management, we’re investing in sectors that meet the needs of this burgeoning population: healthcare, fintech, clean energy, and essential goods such as food. These industries are not only foundational to economic resilience but are also essential to empowering Africa’s youth with access to critical resources. By supporting businesses in these sectors, we’re also ensuring the funds we manage remain defensible and non cyclical. Africa remains a largely untapped investment frontier, with attractive entry points that offer significant growth potential. With valuations at very attractive pricing compared to developed markets with no leverage and high forecasted growth, the region continues to stands out as an attractive investment destination. At Aruwa Capital Management, we’re seizing this opportunity to create long-term value for ourselves and our investors by investing in high-impact businesses that address the basic needs of Africa’s young and rising population. Every investment we make fuels a future where Africa’s youth can thrive, contribute, and drive a wave of sustainable growth for generations to come. #youthentrepreneurship #aruwacapital #africaneconomy #impactinvesting #futureofafrica #inclusivegrowth #returns
