But before she could complete it, this colleague swooped in, finished the task, and presented it—without a word to her. This wasn’t a one-time thing. The colleague had a habit of acting like they were in some kind of competition, constantly undermining her efforts. Instead of addressing the issue directly with the person involved, my friend vented to her other teammates. The result? A tense, divided team atmosphere, complete with subtle jabs and whispered conversations. Here’s the thing: Passive aggression kills collaboration. It stifles creativity, breeds resentment, and forces people into cliques. Instead of a unified team, you get fractured groups picking sides. All this from what could’ve been avoided with simple, honest communication.
