Youth, Peace and Security in Africa: Towards the Development of National Action Plans This policy brief highlights the prerequisites for the successful drafting of national action plans that are in line with the needs of Africa’s youth demographic. National action plans for Youth, Peace and Security are essential for African Union (AU) member states to achieve their goal of Silencing the Guns. Their development requires a synergy with key normative frameworks from the AU, particularly, the Continental Framework on Youth, Peace and Security. They are also a tool to bolster maximum youth inclusion and participation in peace processes. Interested? It’s International Day of Education! This year’s theme, ‘AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation’ highlights the power of innovation to transform education. At Building Blocks for Peace Foundation, we are committed to raising the next generation of peacebuilders. We do this through our peace education project. This project seeks to imbibe the culture of taking individual actions to build peace in the society. The project is carried out in schools (primary and secondary) targeting children and teens across Nigeria to promote social responsibility in the next generation. On the occasion of this year 2025 International Day of Education, we recommit to continuously advancing the role of education for peace and development, while keeping humanity at the centre of education. #InternationalDayOfEducation #Peace #KidsforPeace #Youth4Peace #SDG4 #SDG16

#UNSCR2250 Will Be 10 This Year! It’s #ThrowbackThursday and we’re reminiscing on the One-Day National Workshop themed ‘Peacebuilding in the 21st Century: Revisiting United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250’ which we organised on November 24, 2016. This workshop brought together young people from across #Nigeria and key stakeholders to the city of Ibadan and it served as an avenue to sensitise and raise awareness about the UNSCR 2250 among the youth and also equip them with the right skills and knowledge necessary to effectively advocate for peace and participate in decision making processes. At Building Blocks for Peace Foundation, we are committed to consolidating peace by advancing the implementation of the #Youth and #Women #Peace and #Security Agenda. #Peace #Youth4Peace #WomenPeaceSecurity #PeopleBuidlingPeace

Did You Know? The UNSCR 1325 is the first international legal and political framework that recognizes the disproportionate impact of armed conflicts on women as well as the pivotal role of women in peacebuilding and acknowledges the importance of the participation of women and the inclusion of gender perspectives in peace negotiations, humanitarian planning, peacekeeping operations, post-conflict peacebuilding and governance. The UNSCR 1325 presents a comprehensive political framework within which women’s protection and their role in peace processes can be addressed. The resolution calls for a comprehensive assessment of the impact of armed conflicts on women and girls, the role of women and girls in peacebuilding and the gender dimensions of peace processes and conflict resolution. #UNSCR1325 #Youth4Peace #WomenPeaceSecurity #PeopleBuildingPeace

On the 18th of December 2024, Building Blocks for Peace Foundation, in collaboration with We are special foundation, and Ecosystem Sustainability Network co-hosted the Nasarawa State Local Adaptation Plan of Action Review Stakeholders Forum. The stakeholder's forum was organised to validate the Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) document that was co-developed for Nasarawa State. The aim of the LAPA is to strengthen the resilience of communities in Nasarawa State to climate change by addressing specific local vulnerabilities and risks. This initiative is part of the #ClimateActionforStrongerNaija project that Building Blocks for Peace Foundation is implementing in Nasarawa State with support from the Nigeria Youth SDGs Network and funding from the German Missions in Nigeria. #ClimateActionForStrongerNaija

Did You Know? The Youth, Peace and Security agenda marks a shift in the understanding of who young people are and their role in peace and security. This resolution, unanimously adopted by the United Nations Security Council on December 9, 2015, is a ground-breaking resolution which recognizes that young people play important and positive roles in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security. The Council also identified five (5) key pillars around which it works which include participation, protection, prevention, partnership, and disengagement/reintegration. The #UNSCR2250 is symbolic as it provides a roadmap for the Member States to give youth a greater voice in decision-making at the local, national, regional, and international levels, and to consider setting up mechanisms that would enable young people to participate meaningfully in peace processes, rather than being portrayed as protagonists of war and conflict. #Youth4Peace #Peace #Peacebuilding #PeopleBuildingPeace
