Change a child. Change a community. Change the world.

About us

Founded as an aftermath of the UNESCO-APCEIU Youth Leadership Workshop, Change A Child Community Initiative was created to close the gap between showing and telling young people about global citizenship, and the impact of their contributions to the achievement of a healthier and more equitable world. Our strategy is hinged on making room for more young people to take charge of their lives now, and their future, by making daily decisions that promote peace, dignity, equity, and sustainability. We believe that when we change one child, it has a ripple effect to change a community, and one community is enough to change the world. Join us on this journey!

  • As the world celebrates the #InternationalDayoftheGirldchild today, we are as humled as we are proud of the strides we are making to both inspire and empower girls to work toward the future they want. The theme for this year, Girls' vision for the future, reiterates the importance of our work at #ChangeAChildCommunityInitiative where we inspire girls through our school outreaches, and further empower them through the indepth engagement in our #WHIDE school club meetings. Our programs motivate them to envision a #peaceful future where their opinions, rights, and opportunities are just as important, and guides them on their journey to building that future. Cheers to doing more, #forgirls.

  • 📌 OPEN ADVOCACY LETTER TO H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu In commemoration of the Children's Day celebrations today, we have directed a series of tweets in the form of an open letter to the Executive Governor of Lagos state advocating a sustainable solution to the way waste management is handled across the state. Our WHIDE school club members in 4 schools across Lagos pointed this out as a pressing issue they want the government to work on for their overall well-being. #children #development #environmentaljustice #youth #communityengagement #progress #lagos

  • As we celebrate the #YearofEducation on this #AfricaDay, it is a time to amplify the work we're doing with young children in marginalized communities, teaching them about Global Citizenship Education in a way that is meaningful to, and actionable by them. This is a #throwback to the youth workshop we organized this month that brought together over 40 secondary school students across 8 different schools in Ajegunle. The students learned to collaborate with one another as a means of achieving sustainable development across their communities. With our scholarship program, we encourage students involved in community development to access more opportunities. #education #youth #peace #progress #africa

  • Our motto, 'Change A Child, Change A Community, Change the world' is the foundation of all our projects, past and future. It is our utmost belief that when we succeed at the psychosocial change of one child, it is a vehicle to the next level of change which involves the community where that child is. The effect of peer-to-peer learning and influence cannot be overstated. And, with one community achieving the desired goal, the world is not too out of reach. If we can achieve change with one child, we can achieve it in the world. #education #peace #globalgoals #community #youth

  • #HelloWorld We are delighted to make your acquaintance here and introduce ourselves so you can understand our work and impact thus far. Change A Child Community Initiative was founded on the heels of UNESCO-APCEIU's 8th Youth Leadership Workshop in 2022. We saw the dearth of organizations involving young people in conversations involving sustainable community development and global goals, so we have developed a strategy to address the same. We created a learning material titled "Building Our Ideal Community" which teaches peacebuilding in the words of 7 to 14-year-olds. With this book, we have organized more than 10 school outreaches reaching over 150 students across Primary and Secondary. Our work is mostly in marginalized underserved communities using the tenets of Global Citizenship Education as a tool to educate children, involve them by encouraging their bit-sized community impact projects, and also reward them with scholarships. As a means of continuity, we curated the What Have I Done for Earth (WHIDE) school club with a unique curriculum to create a space where these young people can dialogue in small groups about peace and sustainable progress. This club is present in 4 schools in Ajegunle, Nigeria. We are primarily focused on using the arts to educate, inform, and develop. #whathaveidoneforearth #youthdevelopment #community #peace
