I am so happy to share that Basic Python for Data Science, the book I authored to teach coding through simplified, locally relatable content for secondary school students, has now reached Oron, Akwa Ibom. Thanks to my incredible mentor, Mrs. Modupe Bankole, who generously donated copies through the Inoyo Toro Foundation, students at Methodist Senior Science College, Oron, will have the chance to develop their digital skills and prepare for the future. This is especially meaningful to me, as I remember my experience learning coding at university while studying electronics and telecommunications engineering. Back then, I was introduced to programming through C++ on paper, with no practical computer applications to help me visualize how the code actually runs. Given the complexity, I once thought coding was reserved for a select few with “special” minds. Today, I’m glad to demystify python coding, making it accessible to all. In this book, I’ve woven in local contexts like Eko Oni Baje, Chinua Achebe, and some popular movies like The Lion’s Heart and so on in codes to help students see coding as something approachable and relatable. I aim for young learners to embrace Python, the foundational language of AI, and gain the confidence to pursue any tech career without fear of coding. I’m excited to announce that this textbook, along with accompanying online video tutorials, has reached 10 schools and purchased across 7 states in Nigeria. I’m incredibly grateful to supporters like Mrs. Modupe Bankole, who’ve adopted and donated this resource to secondary schools across the country. Let me tell you a short story… Daisy Tech Limited was born from a pivotal experience. A woman I knew almost lost her job due to a lack of basic digital skills like Microsoft Excel. I trained her, and she kept her job. 2 years later, I embarked on my journey into Data Science, struggling with coding challenges along the way. When I finally received my certification, I realized that engineers like myself, who had learned coding on paper, would likely struggle with data science. This realization inspired me to found Daisy Tech Limited, a company dedicated to simplifying coding in data science by using relatable, local contexts. Since 2020, we’ve helped over 530 young people to navigate through data analysis and machine learning. From the outset, we have been committed to making an impact in our community by engaging the children within the community with essential tech skills like Robotics, Python coding, Data Literacy, and career mentorship from global tech experts. So far, we’ve partnered with five schools, including my alma mater, and giving back in this way has been incredibly rewarding. Recently, I had the privilege of joining the Standard Chartered Women in Technology Initiative (WITI), a transformative business program led by the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-Atlantic University (EDC). This experience completely reshaped my approach to business and introduced me to other inspiring women in tech such as Hannah Osayande Bere CMgr MCMI, Temitope Hundeyin Tunde-Alli, Omowunmi Omoseyindemi, Ijeoma Mary Chukwu, Folake Kofo-Idowu MD MPH, Kachi Kalu, Tope Kareem, along with my exceptional mentor, Edward Esene, who guided me in mastering the art of securing grants. Our graduation ceremony on October 25th marked the end of an intense yet rewarding journey. During this program, Daisy Tech Limited Tech: *Established a Board of Advisors. *Started developing an AI-powered, gamified digital skills training solution for secondary school students, with a focus on underserved communities.
