Celebrating World Population day reminds us of our global growth animpact; together, we can raise awareness about sustainable development, empower women and families, and ensure a prosperous future for everyone. To build towards a sustainable and resilient future as well as manage population growth sustainably, it’s important to empower young girls and women - their empowerment and gender equality are crucial in combating population rise as well as harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights for all. According to various studies, women make informed decisions when they're educated and have access to better options; we break the cycle of poverty when we ensure that young girls and women have access to employment opportunities, high-quality education and healthcare. In conclusion, building a better and sustainable future where everyone thrives requires investing in human capital, emphasizing sustainability, protecting reproductive health and rights, fostering education and awareness, seeking inclusive growth, and embracing technology and innovation. As we celebrate WDP2024, let’s keep in mind that the world we leave for future generations will be shaped by the decisions we make today. Together, we can foster a sustainable global society that coexists peacefully with the environment. 📷 UNFPA #WorldPopulationDay #WPD2024 #SustainableLiving #SaveThePlanet #ClimateSmartFarming #ClimateSmartAgriculture #SustainableFarming #Elcornel

Elcornel was established to maximise urban spaces to grow safe, nutritious, quality and organic food to bridge the hunger as well as protect the environment - it's been two years of growing food without chemical fertiliser that destroys our environment and it's been an amazing journey. We've failed... We've learnt... We've rebuilt! On this journey, We've realised that several young girls and women have been displaced due to violence or are disadvantaged and have little or no income; most of them relied heavily on conventional farming techniques to grow food in most of these rural areas facing violent crises, Being displaced, they're forced to sought alternative sources of income in semi-urban and urban areas or depend on remittances from friends and families This birth our social enterprise which is focused on empowering young girls and women through entrepreneurial and organic farming training; according to research, employing young girls and women increases their ability to earn an income which is critically important to their economic empowerment and the well-being of their family THE STATISTICS According to Statista, between 2018 and 2020, on average 21.4 percent of population in Nigeria experienced hunger due to challenges like: 1. Inability to enhance food production for more food 2. Illegal mining activities 3. Insecurity 4. Pressure from climate change, soil erosion and biodiversity loss This shows that a lot of opportunities abound in agriculture and maximising urban spaces will not only bridge the hunger gap but will provide employment and this drives us to work with these young girls and women. According to a 2021 report by Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre, 38% of unemployed IDPs are females have sought alternative income like illegal mining hence putting their lives and the environment at risk - they wish to continue farming but lack of access to land, fertilizer and other skills/tools prevents them from doing so in their new communities OUR SOLUTION The Victoria Women's Community Project is an initiative to empower young girls and women who have been displaced and their source of livelihood has been disrupted; our training program aims to provide them with skills/tools to shift from conventional farming to more sustainable techniques and enjoy higher earnings. Our training program, advances gender inclusivity and increases greater representation, and will put more women in leadership and management position as well give young girls the opportunity to dream and realize their potential OUR FIVE YEARS IMPACT PLAN It is vital to provide a safe space for young girls and women, promote social change and reduce poverty - our impact plan is to work with 100-200 young girls and women yearly. In the long run, we hope to connect them with land owners within the community to lease their properties so they can use their new skills/tools to grow food all year #SheSustains #SocialImpact #ImpactStory #ImpactNumbers #ClimateSmartFarming
