📚 Today, on International Day of Education, we celebrate education as a powerful tool for opportunity, innovation, and change. 🌍 At Elevate, we firmly believe that access to quality education is essential to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering young Africans to transform their communities. Education isn’t just a right—it’s the foundation for a brighter, more equitable future. Let’s continue to advocate for inclusive and transformative education for all. Together, we can build a future where no one is left behind.✨

This week, I had a conversation with one of Elevate Development Foundation's team leaders. We sat down to reflect on the past year and plan for the year ahead. As we talked, she shared a major challenge her team faced last year: key man risk. Every member of her team relied on her input to carry out their duties. While it seemed like strong leadership on the surface, it became clear that this level of dependence was unsustainable. Whenever she was maxed out (because she’s human), progress stalled, and the team couldn’t move forward. So, I told her: Your work is strategy, not doing everything yourself. Leadership is about creating systems and structures that empower others to take initiative. It’s about building a team that thrives, even when you’re not available. Yes, as a leader, you should have the competence to step in when necessary, but your primary role is to provide direction, clarity, and the support your team needs to grow. Reflecting on her experience, it was clear that leading a team effectively means letting go of the urge to do it all. Instead, equip your team members to step up and own their roles. It’s not easy, but it’s the only way to move from survival to real, sustainable leadership. So we decided that this year, she'll focus on building more independence into her team. How are you planning to lead differently this year?
