FourthCanvas reposted this
"One day, everything just makes sense." This is the caption that Favour used to post my picture, congratulating me on winning the Rising Star Award at FourthCanvas. You see, that caption captures it all. In early 2022, when I was teaching as a TFN fellow in Ijebu-Ode, I came across the 4C Fellowship application. Until then, I had never heard of "brand strategy", all I knew was personal branding. Researching about FourthCanvas was all I needed to motivate me to apply for the fellowship. However, I failed at the last stage of the recruitment process and missed that opportunity. Come 2023, I was working as a full-time writer and well on my way to shattering glass ceilings with writing, a skill I had been honing since 2020. In June, Victor—the CEO—informed me that the fellowship application was open. Do I want to try again this year? I said I'd give it my best shot, and I did just that. So when I got a mail from FourthCanvas, saying I was 1 out of 4 women who qualified for the fellowship, I knew I couldn't afford to miss this opportunity, again. I had to leave my former job just a month after getting a promotion. That was the toughest decision I've had to make in my career. Oh, it was a tough one. But it's all beginning to make sense now. 2024 was a trying year for me. There were days when I was confused about my journey in brand strategy. I asked myself over and over: "What exactly are you doing, Winnie?" I can now say 2024 was challenging in a beautiful way. While I was trying to get my feet in the world of branding, riding on my experience with writing and storytelling, I thrived on the belief that my ogas (as I call them) had on me. Fortune welcomed me and helped me build a great foundation in brand strategy. Wilfred took over and shared resources to help me grow. But not only, he also challenged me with tasks I never thought I'd pull off. Victor (Fá himself 😁) reminded me every opportunity he got about my potential as as an exceptional talent. And then there is Camdee (Comfort), my baby, who takes every chance to tell me "See, Winnie, I believe in you." Today, they all say they're proud of me...but it's because of their moral support that I could achieve this. Rising Star? That's a huge recognition for all my hard-work. I know this award is a call to even bigger and more daring challenges. Another chance to go all in, leverage my network, and produce higher quality work. I'm glad I was able to inspire the 4C Women (Comfort, Hannah, Adesola) because this is a win for all of us. My mother, Iya Ibeji, is proud of me. I am proud of myself. Watch out for me this year, as I'll be doing great work with the great people of FourthCanvas, and showing up more. Here's cheers to growth. Special thanks to Tunji who gifted me a copy of Scott Lerman's "Building Better Brands: A Comprehensive Guide to Brand Strategy and Identity Development." Can't wait to start reading. 🚀🚀🚀 #winwithwinnie #brandtrategist #4citizen #star
