United Nations Academic Impact Millennium Campus Network (MCN), FUTMinna Millennium Fellowship, Abel ONUH, Ayomide Bright, Badmos Musa #_millennium_fellow_class_of_2023 #Excerpt_from_this_week's_Outreach I Felix Oyeniyi, during my first year at the Federal University of Technology Minna in 2017, I noticed the challenge facing quality education in the Gidan Kwano community, one of the core remote area in Niger state. Most times, my team and I met with children in this neighborhood that weren't in school, students who were once admitted and dropped out in their first year from college due to poor academic performance. Then I came up with a team to organize tutorial for student seeking admission to tertiary institutions and students in their first year, the outcome encourage us to do more and we created "Campus Awareness Hub (CAH); Education awareness to the most remote area of Niger State!" established in 2021 Of recent, the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) release a report that about 743,056 children in the state are not in school, this to me is dangerous and harmful to the future and peace of the community. Then as a team (CAH), we now extended our operation to primary and secondary school and we are still in the business today. The main aim is to get more primary school pupils in secondary school and more secondary school student to secure admissions to high schools and to help the just admitted ones to remain in good standing academically. Now the team CAH has been selected as part of #_millennium_fellowship_class_of_2023 project aimed at promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-4- Quality Education), and now we jointly team up to work on project titled "EDUlight" for mass outreaches "The project's goal is to encourage the Gidan Kwano community residents of Minna to recognize the importance of education for out-of-school children and to encourage their re-enrollment in order to create a sustainable future for them. The primary goal of the project is to increase the number of children and young people enrolled in schools in the community, as well as to improve the academic performance of those already enrolled by promoting excellence. If this is achieved, the project will be considered a success. The measurable goals of the project are: - To reach out to fifty (50) households for an awareness campaign for parents and children not in school on the importance of education. - To visit primary and secondary schools (public and private schools) to conduct interactive sessions with pupils and students in the classroom. - To provide educational resources such as books, pens, pencil, socks, chalk, marker, white boards and other materials. - To conduct extra classes and tutorials to help students achieve academic excellence. - To pay school fees of one (1) student from each household most especially those who are underprivileged.
