In 2024, Heifer International Africa continued to support smallholder farmers across Africa to build their incomes and improve resilience for the people who put food on the continent's tables. Thank you to all our partners for working with us to make 2024 a year of impact; fostering innovation, and strengthening food systems. Let's do more in 2025, putting the voices of our farmers front and centre. Together, with our amazing partners and farming communities, we can build a dynamic future for African agriculture. #2024 #2025 #africa #agriculture #innovation Motola Oyebanjo, Surita Sandosham, Adesuwa Ifedi, Lekan Tobe, Ph.D. Hello Tractor, Heifer Nigeria, Heifer International Ethiopia, Heifer International Uganda, Heifer International Tanzania, Heifer International, AYuTe Africa, Heifer International Kenya, Heifer Senegal , AFS Forum, AFSIC - Investing in Africa, World Food Forum, Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF), Tajudeen Yahaya, Silo Africa, Eliud Rugut, Extension Africa, Wangui Muna, William Matovu, Toyosi Lana, Lekan Tobe, Ph.D., Dayo Aduroja, Jehiel Oliver, Samson Alemu, Verena Ruzibuka

About us
Welcome to the Africa page of @Heifer International. We are on a global mission to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. Heifer International has operations in 19 countries around the world, 9 of these being in Africa. We are working alongside governments, smallholder farmers, youth, agripreneurs, business owners and communities, as they mobilize and envision their futures. Together, we build inclusive, resilient economies, so communities can develop effective ways to end global hunger and poverty in a sustainable way. To date, we have supported more than 46 million farming families across Africa, Asia and the Americas and in the past five years alone, we have worked alongside 2.7 million families to close the living income gap or set them on a path to doing so. Between now and 2030, we will support an additional 10 million people to reach a living income by scaling up our signature programs. To achieve this, Heifer International relies on its passionate, committed and highly skilled staff.

Recently Heifer International colleagues from all the 9 countries where we support smallholder farmers in Africa, namely Heifer International Ethiopia, Heifer International Kenya, Malawi, Heifer Nigeria, Heifer International Rwanda, Heifer Senegal, Heifer International Tanzania, Heifer International Uganda and Zambia, met for a Regional Roundtable to discuss Heifer's global Organisational Transformation. Joined by the global Transformation Steering Committee which includes our President and CEO, Surita Sandosham, our Africa SVP Adesuwa Ifedi, and other organizational leaders, the roundtable was a platform to learn more about the vision of the transformation, while getting valuable feedback and insights from colleagues across the continent. A key point emphasized was that as we navigate our organizational transformation, amplifying all voices, both within our organization and in the farming communities we serve, is crucial for fostering collaboration and ensuring sustainable development. #Transformation #Impact #EmployeeEngagement #HeiferAfrica #AfricaRoundtable

Consider the food on your table — a reflection of the earth’s gifts and the farmers who coax life from soil and sun. Each meal represents a passage through seasons and hands, woven together into a global food system that feeds billions of people every year. However, this network has become increasingly fragile under the weight of climate challenges and inadequate infrastructure, which strains its ability to meet rising demands. The future of food depends on a sustainable model, and farmers stand as the backbone. In this season, from beekeepers in Ethiopia to environmental stewards in Honduras, we celebrate those growing not only food but prospects that fortify communities and nourish us all: https://bit.ly/3V1a3Hl

Recently, Heifer International joined other stakeholders in Nouakchott, Mauritania, for a high-level forum on livestock and pastoralism in the Sahel. Under the theme “Nouakchott+10: A Decade of Action for Pastoral and Agropastoral Communities – Achievements and Future Pathways,” lessons learned and achievements gained over the past 10 years of initiatives aimed at benefiting pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in the Sahel were discussed. Country Director, Heifer Senegal Dr. Daouda Ndao, who represented Heifer at the forum said "Heifer's presence at this high-level forum demonstrates our commitment to contributing to the common quest for a sustainable and prosperous future for pastoral communities and livestock farming in the Sahel. We exchanged innovative ideas, shared enriching experiences, and strengthened our partnerships to address current and future challenges.” Some of the major gains identified during the forum include increasing the income of pastoral communities from livestock activities and enhancing the economic capacity of agropastoral communities. #Sahel #Farmers #Livestock #Communities #Africa #Heifer

At Heifer International, we understand a fundamental truth: healthy soil is essential for sustainable agriculture and food security in Africa. When we support smallholder farmers across the continent, we're not just growing crops - we're regenerating ecosystems and transforming lives. Heifer provides soil, water and animal management training and extension services to farmers and producers to encourage processes that improve soil quality and soil retention. By using organic fertilizers like manure or compost, planting cover crops and building water catchment areas, farmers can build and retain topsoil so their land is more productive and more resilient to droughts and floods. This #WorldSoilDay, we celebrate the incredible knowledge of African farmers and our shared commitment to nurturing the earth that sustains us all. #WorldSoilDay #SustainableAgriculture #HeiferAfrica #AfricanFarmers #HeiferAfrica Heifer International Africa, Heifer Nigeria, Heifer International Ethiopia, Heifer International Kenya, Heifer International Rwanda, Heifer Senegal
