Monarch in Ogun State Suspended over Alleged Land Grabbing The Egba Traditional Council has suspended the Olu of Obafemi, Oba Taofeek Owolabi, for six months over an allegation of land grabbing brought against him by the Agboro Olatunde Community Development Association in Ogun State. A letter dated December 13, 2024, signed by the Alake of Egbaland and President of the Egba Traditional Council, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, stated that the suspension was due to Oba Owolabi’s failure to honor multiple invitations from both the Ogun State House of Assembly and the Council’s Ethical Committee. The suspended monarch had previously been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in the Owode-Egba area in October 2024, facing charges of defrauding one Michael Adeyemi of N75 million and assaulting a police officer. The charges include felony, fraudulent conversion, and assault. The controversy began on January 29, 2024, when the Agboro Olatunde Community Development Association petitioned the Ogun State House of Assembly, accusing the monarch of illegally acquiring land. In response, the Assembly scheduled meetings on July 8, 10, and 17, 2024, at the State House of Assembly complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Despite multiple notifications, Oba Owolabi allegedly failed to attend... READ MORE 👉 https://lnkd.in/dceCehRq #LandGrabbing #ogunmonarch

Trump’s Mass Deportation Plan Won’t Fix Housing Crisis, Say Experts The mass deportations of immigrants that President-elect Donald Trump has promised aren’t likely to make a dent in the nation’s housing crisis, many experts say, despite what he and his supporters claimed during his campaign. Experts say the reasons for that are many. Immigrants in the U.S. without documentation are more likely to live in low-income rental housing than they are to live in higher-income areas or to buy homes. They often live in multigenerational groups with many people in a household. And they are a key cog in the construction industry, meaning fewer homes would get built without their labor. Yet, as the United States’ ongoing housing crisis grew more visible this year, Trump seized on immigration as a chief cause. “Immigration is driving housing costs through the roof,” he said at a September rally in Arizona... Experts Call for Auction of Seized Assets to Support Affordable Housing Initiative The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), has commended the landmark court ruling ordering the forfeiture of 753 properties tied to corruption, calling for the government to auction the properties transparently and channel the proceeds into social housing for Nigerians. Festus Adebayo, Executive Director of HDAN, praised the decision by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s fight against graft and a step toward addressing the nation’s housing deficit. “These properties should be auctioned in a transparent manner, with every naira generated directed toward building affordable housing for Nigerians who have been deprived of such opportunities due to corruption and looting of this nature,” Adebayo emphasized. The seized properties, located on a sprawling 150,500-square-meter estate in Abuja’s Lokogoma District, represent Nigeria’s largest asset forfeiture to date. Adebayo highlighted the critical need for accountability in managing such assets, warning against past instances where forfeited properties disappeared into opaque processes...
