In 2023, KOICA and the ICRC entered into a partnership to support primary health services in Nigeria, specifically in the states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. The aim is to provide violence-affected people, in particular children and pregnant and lactating women, with good-quality preventive and curative health care, and boost the capacity of health workers, including midwives, to provide health services in line with recognized national or international standards. https://lnkd.in/djNJVmCb

On November 11, 2024, the Government of Korea, through KOICA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Liberia’s Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP). On Thursday, 31 October 2024, the KOICA Country Director, Mr. Sungil Son, participated in the grand finale of the National Girls in ICT Competition in Abuja. KOICA, in collaboration with partners, supported the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, which aimed at encouraging female participation in the ICT sector, bridging the digital gender gap, and providing a platform for girls to develop solutions to community challenges. Students and teachers from the six KOICA-supported Smart Schools (Nasarawa, Cross River, Ekiti, Kano, Bauchi and the FCT) attended the competition with Kano State’s team emerging as the overall winner.

On the 28th of October, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), represented by H.E. Kim Pan-kyu, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, officially handed over 1,662 pieces of educational digital content to Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). This ceremony, held at the Korean Embassy in Abuja, marks a significant milestone in the Smart Education project—a collaboration between KOICA and UBEC that commenced in 2021. The project has received substantial support from the Korean government, with a generous grant of $10.4 million to enhance basic education in Nigeria through smart technologies. The digital content, designed for Primary 4-6 pupils and Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1 students, focuses on mathematics and science. This initiative aims to improve classroom teaching and learning outcomes and foster greater interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects among students. The educational materials are set to be distributed across 37 smart schools and other public schools in Nigeria.

On October 2, 2024, the Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) participated in the High-Level Stakeholders’ Engagement Workshop for the Government Service Portal (GSP). This is in line with the initiative of the Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with KOICA, to develop a comprehensive digital services Portal intended to serve as a one-stop platform for Nigerian citizens to access various government services online. The initiative aims to simplify service delivery, promote transparency, and enhance user experience when interacting with government institutions. The event, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, was attended by key stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), the Post Master General of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), and representatives from other government agencies. These key stakeholders have shown commitment to the successful implementation of the GSP, emphasizing the importance of collaborating to achieve its goals.
