It's 3 days to go, and here are 3 facts you should know about the National Plastic Action Roadmap: 1. Following the official launch of the Nigeria National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) on May 18, 2023, by the Federal Ministry of Environment (FME) and the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP), the ball was set rolling to pull together a document that will marshall out Nigeria’s aspirations for a plastic pollution free nation come 2040, titled “Towards A System Change In Plastic Pollution - A Roadmap For The Sustainable Use Of Plastics In Nigeria By The Nigeria National Plastic Action Partnership.” The roadmap has been developed using the GPAP’s dedicated National Analysis and Modelling (NAM) tool. 2. KPMG West Africa as the implementation partner, has had several stakeholder consultation workshops to guide the tool in first creating a Baseline Analysis for plastic flows in Nigeria, carrying out scenario modelling to quantify the economic, environmental, and social implications of different plastic pathways, which has led to a confirmation of the most effective change scenarios for Nigeria with an outline of steps needed to achieve them. 3. The Roadmap is not about ending plastics but ending plastic pollution in Nigeria. It will form the basis for policy formulation and implementation by regulators, signaling to investors that the right regulations are in place for investments to happen, in an environment devoid of plastic pollution but rightly stimulated to create jobs and opportunities that crystallize social and economic impact. The roadmap will be launched by the Honourable Minister of Environment Mr. Balarabe Abbas Lawal on Thursday the 17th of October, 2024 at The Exclusive Serene Hotel, Plot 31, Reuben Okoya crescent, by Olusegun Obasanjo way, Wuye, FCT. Abuja. Time: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM WAT.
