Is there free money on the #Tech #Street?
The date here is 26th July, 2024 and it was a great day in the life of our dear institute.
A great day, because our 10-week-long Frontend Web development training program climaxed with a demo of six products. What is it to be happy about?
During the 10 weeks of hard work, commitment and grit, learning the fundamentals of #HTML, #CSS, #JavaScript and GIT, which form the building blocks of every frontend development career, at some point, the students were on the verge of giving up, somewhere discouraged and even frustrated with the fact that there are so much to learn.
Albeit it is not out of place to say that those feelings are normal, but could be very disastrous if the team didn't proactively deploy a crisis management phase using their various network to usher in weekly mentorship and fireside sessions and that is where we stand out!
In no time, our potential developers had to learn from various professionals in and outside the technical engineering space, and from social engineering maestros how to navigate the waters, not just as developers, but also as project managers, deploying skills like networking, strategic thinking and collaborations amongst other things.
The students found solace in the fact that in addition to learning the technical skills, the technical skills alone don't guarantee success, you need emotional intelligence, people management, and communication among other skills.
At the end of the 10-week-long #marathon, our students came out with various soft skills and also technical skills to take on the labour market either as an employer of labour (our top priority) or a potential employee (as a way of gaining more experience).
In all these, the management of the Institute is grateful to our sister organization, Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF) for the financial support given to the students (50% scholarship), and other benefactors who supported some of the students to offset the balance of the 50% left to pay.
As an Institute, following the legacy of our late founder, Innocent Chukwuma
we want to do more, we want to put the entire southeast Nigeria in the spotlight by constantly identifying the needed skills and impacting them to the youths.
Beyond the misconception that learning to code is synonymous with getting free money, our students have come to realize that this assertion is wrong, but compensation comes through hard work, and in this industry, hard work includes but is not limited to:
- Writing clean and efficient codes
- Being on top of the game with good communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team etc
This next cohort will be hybrid (physical class if you are in Owerri, and virtual class concurrently running for those outside Owerri).
