About us

Investing in people, particularly young people, is the most leveraged and cost effective investment that nations like Nigeria currently experiencing youth bulge can use to turn the tide. We are already witnessing a gradual manifestation of a cohort of profound challenges in population growth, sexual health anomalies, huge poverty headcount, underemployment and poor output of governance. Investing in the wellbeing of over 102 million youths will only increase Nigeria’s ability to address the present and future social impairments in our society. How to repetitively set young people on the development agenda is a drive for us. Our mission is our key driver – At Onelife Initiative, we are convinced that young people are the greatest asset of this age. That explains why we seek to empower young people with the right skills using participatory tools whilst giving them access to appropriate information needed to activate sustainable change in society. Onelife Initiative’s vision is a generation of young people enjoying improved socio-economic life through innovative and consistent engagement with Nigeria’s public space. We believe this is central to having sustainable outcomes in sexual and reproductive health and rights, governance and economic development; in measures that can profit our target population. The theory of change at Onelife Initiative for Human Development takes root from our approach. We believe that - IF young people have good grasps of governance and policy issues, become active citizens and make key inputs into policies; AND IF their sexual and reproductive health and rights also do not lag because of the quality of information they have to protect them and plan for their future; AND IF they are strengthened through enterprise to become economically independent; THEN we will have the emergence of a generation of young people enjoying improved socio-economic life who can constantly have their interest protected in Nigeria’s public space.

  • Bisola has been an integral part of our team who has shown tremendous growth and commitment to her work over time. At Onelife Initiative, we are fiercely appreciative of our dedicated and reliable staff. She was presented with a laptop and an additional cash gift from the chairman of our board as he wished her well in her next chapter. Bisola’s journey with us is not coming to an end, at least not for us! We have enjoyed the fun memories that we shared and this will remain with us. We wish her all the best as she steps into another phase of life. • We’re thrilled to be in Abomey-Calavi, République du Bénin, for the Onelife Initiative for Human Development’s 2025-2030 Strategic Planning Workshop. Through thoughtful discussions and strategic planning, we are reimagining how we can better serve and empower young people in the years ahead. As we refine our vision and align our efforts for the next six years, you can look forward to new programs and initiatives designed to equip young people with the resources, skills, and information they need to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities. Our report, with support from Malala Fund also unveils other findings and opportunities for intervention to improve the lot of the girl child in the state.  — Onelife Initiative #GirlChildRights #EducateOyo #girls #onelifeinitiative #GirlChildEducation #oyostate Global Partnership for Education Education For All

  • Town hall meetings are not only for political events. We recently brought together a very diverse group of stakeholders to discuss issues surrounding girls education in 5 Local Government Areas in Oyo State. With support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Local Inspectorate of Education, we assembled community leaders, girls, teachers, school administrators, religious leaders, media professionals and girls in public secondary schools to address the quality of girls education in Iseyin, Kajola, Oyo East, Oyo West and Afijio. Our choice of Local Governments followed the WAEC result of 2022 where only 1,267 girls from public school sat from the exams in Iseyin Local Government and only 11 passed representing over 99% fail rate. Our Local Governments of choice were the poorly performing ones in the state. With support from the stakeholders in the community and our partner @MalalaFund, we are poised to reverse this trend. Watch this space even as we are welcome to ideas to address this issue of poor performance and drop-out rate of girls in Secondary Schools using multi approaches. #GirlChildEducation #SoGE #OyoState #EducateOyo #Iseyin#Kajola#OyoEast#OyoWest #Afijio #OnelifeInitiative

  • One Child, One Teacher, One Book and One Pen, according to Malala Yousafzai can change the world. Every time we get the opportunity to engage with stakeholders, we are quick to also let them know that a child in a bad school is better than a child in no school at all! In Akwa Ibom State, we met with stakeholders in #Uyo, #Abak and #Oron Local Government Areas with intent to collectively address and review upwards the number of girls who make it to the Senior Secondary Class 3 and eventually write the terminal WASCCE examination. We also explained our interest in girls having better performance in this examination. In 2022, a total of 3,835 students sat for the external examination in Uyo Local Government, with only 656 girls and 483 boys having credits in 5 subjects, including Mathematics and English. The concerns in the various halls the meeting held showed how parents, teachers and various stakeholders were crestfallen about the state of things and were ready to address the challenge. Together, and with support of critical actors in the state, we are hoping this trend can be reversed. • After an intensive 5-day residential training on Increasing Sexual and Reproductive Autonomy among women and girls in Oyo State, our Peer Educators couldn’t wait to get to work! They immediately began sharing their new knowledge with peers in their communities. They held engaging discussions on Gender Power Dynamics, Gender Inequality, and its impact on Sexual and Reproductive Health. They also shared life skills such as Body Image, Self-Esteem, Decision Making, Goal Setting, and Communication, Negotiation, and Refusal Skills to help their peers make informed decisions about their health. One of the most exciting parts? Many of the girls were thrilled to learn how to track their menstrual cycles and explore various contraceptive methods. They’re now equipped to identify and report Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) to the right authorities. Here’s the best part—the impact is spreading fast! The peers are already mobilizing their friends for the next cohort session because they believe this life-changing information shouldn’t be kept to themselves. #SRHR #YoungPeople #ReproductiveRights #SexualHealth #WomenandGirls #SexualityEducation #OyoState #Ibadan #LifeSkills #Abstinence #Contraception #Consent #MenstrualHealthandHygiene #Ipas

  • There are so many opportunities in the agricultural sector, that there is room for everyone to do something. We have seed producers, input dealers, consultants, cash crop farmers, vegetable farmers, food crop farmers, livestock farmers, agronomists, etc. One opportunity that is very easy to venture into, and has not really been utilised is the seedlings production. Seedling production is the cultivation of plant seeds in a special place known as a nursery. This is done so that for the first few weeks, the plants are grown and nurtured in a conducive environment through controlled medium until they reach a specified and suitable size for transplanting. Though not all vegetables require nursery, some major plants, such as tomatoes, pepper, cabbage, onions, lettuce, etc really require nursery. In respect to this, we have been training vegetable farmers on the #HortiNigeria on the various methods of innovatively raising healthy seedling in nurseries. Which one will you be trying? #HortiNigeria #InnovationInFarming #SustainableAgriculture #Agribusiness #Enterprisedevelopment #OnelifeInitiative #Vegetables #Horticulture #OyoState #YouthsinAgriculture #Ibadan #Nigeria #OyoState

  • Today, we took our School Connect Project to Treville Modern School, #Uyo, and it was nothing short of amazing! Part of our vision at #OnelifeInitiative is to engage young minds with the knowledge and life skills they need to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Our sexual and reproductive health sessions are designed specifically for different age groups, ensuring the information is relatable and age-appropriate. And let’s talk about our “Anonymous Box”—the real MVP of the day! Questions flooded in from every corner, ones that are often too tricky for parents and teachers to tackle. We’re here to answer them all! We left Treville Modern School buzzing with excitement and curiosity, knowing these young people are better equipped to navigate their world with confidence. Do you also have buzzing questions that you are afraid to ask your parents? Please feel free to private chat us and we are glad to provide answers. #SRHR #YoungPeople #ReproductiveRights #SexualHealth #SexualityEducation #Uyo #AkwaIbom #LifeSkills #Abstinence #MenstrualHealthandHygiene #YoungAdolescents

  • Last week Friday, we wrapped up an intense 5-day training for peer educators. They were equipped with the knowledge and skills to champion holistic Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Ido and Oyo West Local Government Areas. This will facilitate their provision of linkage to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services for adolescent and young girls and women in their communties. At first, most of them had little expectations, and as the days progressed they were surprised by the volume and value of information they were loaded with. During the tea breaks, they shot some reels to add spice to the sessions. Now they are well equipped to take on cohort sessions with their peers in their communities. One interesting thing we did with them was to organise a practicum for them in a local community in Ibadan so that they can see first hand how a cohort session should be held and also make corrections on their approaches. Get ready to meet our brand-new peer educators who will be knocking on your doors and asking young girls to join their cohort sessions. Here’s a toast to our partner, Ipas Nigeria for making this possible and also to our peer educators who are ready to get cracking for the next 29 months. 🍸 #SRHR #YoungPeople #ReproductiveRights #SexualHealth #WomenandGirls #SexualityEducation #OyoState #Ibadan #LifeSkills #Abstinence #Contraception #Consent #MenstrualHealthandHygiene #IdoLocalGovernment #OyoWestLocalGovernment #Contraceptives #PeerEducators #Nigeria #AYPs

  • It’s refreshing to see the output of the support we provided for our Agribusiness desk in #Ekiti flourish and benefit other young people. With a bag of cucumber now selling for N10,000, the economic benefits are obvious. We provided full technical support to ensure the Agro Allied CDS group of the #NYSC in #IkoleEkiti understood the agronomy of the crop, the protocol and the safe management of pest and diseases on cucumber. By day 45, the first harvest was ready especially as we already had the first flower on 29th day and fruiting started on the 35th day after planting. If we are to address issues around food security in #Nigeria, we’ll need to start off by setting up several Learning plots like this one. Lest we forget, we also had to use Indigenous Knowledge Systems to keep Ekiti goats away from the plot! #Horticulture #Agribusiness #OnelifeInitiative #NYSC #EkitiState #Cucumber #Vegetable #FaminginNigeria
