This week, Propcom+'s Team Lead, Adiya Ode, and Strategy Director, Olumide Ojo, were at the #AgricultureSummitAfrica, an annual cornerstone event organised by Sterling Bank that unites influential figures in the agriculture sector. At the event, they led two power-packed sessions on harmonising agriculture policies for sustainable food security & conflict resolution and facilitating #finance in Africa's food and agricultural transformation, two critical areas of our work at Propcom+. Key takeaways from their panels were: 1. Food security is a priority for all states, and there is a need to harmonise regulations and standards at all levels. 2. Development partners must support policy harmonisation by calling the attention of government at all levels to the challenges and inconsistencies of existing policies with realities on ground and the need for better-improved regulations. 3. When it comes to financing agriculture, the place of character and financial credibility cannot be denied; hence, agricultural players must maintain integrity when seeking and managing finance. 4. There is a strong need for tailored financial products with low interest rates to support smallholder farmers. Financial institutions were charged with setting up agricultural finance departments, with staff who have a background in agriculture or related fields to design, test and roll out these tailored products. For Propcom+, these interesting conversations underscore the importance of our work in shaping agricultural policies and piloting and scaling innovative financing options for smallholders and small-scale entrepreneurs. We are optimistic about the impact these will have on food security in the coming years. #ClimateSmartAgriculture #InnovativeFinance #SustainableAgriculture #UKNGProsperity UK in Nigeria Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Palladium: Make It Possible

We are thrilled to have been part of the 3rd National Cocoa Festival in Nigeria, hosted by the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN). Our Vice President of Programmes, Peter Koegler, and Country Director for Ghana, Coffie Mawuli, DBA, discussed the future of cocoa in relation to the EU Deforestation Regulation, traceability, and value addition in Calabar. During the festival, we had the honour to speak with Hon. Johnson Ebokpo II, Commissioner of Agriculture and Irrigation Development of Cross River State, looking towards strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing the sustainable development of the cocoa sector. Additionally, we are collaborating with Propcom+, as part of Palladium: Make It Possible's Partnerships for Forests program, to launch a pilot of the #CocoaAndForests Initiative in Cross River State. We strive towards sustainable growth in the cocoa sector, ensuring benefits for farmers and the environment.

Last week, we had the privilege of supporting the NVMA (Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association)'s 60th National Congress, a significant event marking a century of veterinary service delivery in Nigeria. This landmark event was a celebration of the pivotal role the NVMA has played in the country's veterinary sector. During the conference held in Jos, Plateau State, from 21 to 25 October 2024, Propcom+'s Team Lead, Adiya Ode, had the honour of delivering a Goodwill Message in which she acknowledged the crucial role of veterinary medicine in boosting food security and improving livelihoods. This is why, among other interventions, she said Propcom+ is currently strengthening last-mile access to animal vaccines for smallholder farmers through the community animal health workers (#CAHWs) model and boosting the supply of vaccines through work with NVRI VOM. Through a number of targeted interventions, Propcom+ aims to improve market access, scale up proven models, and strengthen the livestock sector in a sustainable manner that drives productive growth across the sector. #Lastmile #AnimalVaccines #UKNGProsperity UK in Nigeria Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Palladium: Make It Possible
