“The Diagnosis: Facing the Unknown” The moment of diagnosis is often the most challenging for patients—especially when cancer is involved. For many, hearing the words “you have cancer” can feel like the world has shifted beneath their feet. Take the story of Nkechi, a 42-year-old mother of two, who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Like many others, she ignored the early signs—an irregular lump in her breast and occasional pain—thinking it was a minor issue. When she finally visited Sebeccly Cancer Care after a friend encouraged her to get checked, the diagnosis was both shocking and terrifying. However, Sebeccly provided a clear plan, explaining her diagnosis and the next steps. The initial fear quickly turned into a sense of determination as she realized that early detection significantly improved her chances of survival. At Sebeccly, we provide comprehensive education and counseling to help patients understand their diagnosis and empower them to take control of their health. Early detection is key, and having the right support during that critical moment can make all the difference. “Don’t wait until it’s too late. Early diagnosis is your first step toward fighting cancer.” – Nkechi

Breast Cancer: A Fight for Early Detection and Better Outcomes Breast cancer is a challenge that affects millions worldwide, but it’s one we can face together. At Sebeccly Cancer Care, we know that early detection changes lives—yet, many people still lack access to screening or don’t recognize the early signs of breast cancer. The advancements in early detection and treatment options today are impressive, but awareness remains our greatest tool. Catching cancer early can mean simpler, less invasive treatments and, most importantly, more survivors. We see it every day—timely detection saves lives. That’s why we’re making screening more accessible through Breast Health Fridays. Every Friday, we’re offering discounted screenings so that companies and individuals alike can take a proactive step toward better breast health. Investing in employee health can be a powerful part of your organization’s commitment to well-being and resilience. Together, let’s make breast cancer detection and prevention something within everyone’s reach.

Helping cancer patients simplify health information, map out and complete treatment, and gain the confidence to lead remarkable lives.
At the WHO Africa regional breast cancer webinar, a concern was raised about a problematic situation that occurs far too often. It is not uncommon for some patients to #refuse cancer treatment, even when it could be beneficial for them. These decisions often stem from feelings of fear, stigma, denial, exhaustion, or lack of trust and support from the medical team. While cancer specialists may find this frustrating and see it as a missed opportunity, we need to explore alternative ways to communicate the therapeutic benefits of cancer treatment. It is important to balance our eagerness to treat with an understanding of the patient's perspective and mindset. In truth, cancer treatment is very tough and intense. I remind patients that leaving cancer untreated usually leads to worse outcomes and complications. One effective approach is patient navigation, which addresses individual barriers (such as fear and lack of knowledge) and system-level challenges (like a shortage of empathetic cancer specialists and infrastructural issues) that can delay timely cancer diagnosis and treatment. To learn more about patient navigation, please look at the recently launched WHO Patient Navigation Technical Brief. The link is in the comment section. Some practical examples of how we are navigating and supporting patients across the complex healthcare system include Oncopadi Tech provides accurate cancer care information, allowing patients to read and watch from home to make informed decisions. #PROSEcare provides virtual side effect reporting and management so that patients are supported while receiving chemotherapy, radiotherapy etc. Sebeccly Cancer NGO connects patients and caregivers with support resources such as access programs, support groups and recovery care products. Pearl Oncology Specialist Hospital provides quality cancer care to patients with different price points in various locations across Lagos. #ThePeoplesOncologist #patientnavigation
