  • One week later, we are still in awe of the incredible impact our digital and financial literacy training held in Ibadan, Oyo State, has had on the lives of rural businesswomen. On Sunday, December 15, 2024, Tech Herfrica, in partnership with Women for Liberty Africa, organized a transformative digital and financial literacy training for rural farmers and traders in Ibadan, Oyo State. This event was designed to equip these women with essential digital and entrepreneurial skills to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods. Thanks to our collaboration with Turn.io and generous support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we introduced a WhatsApp Chat Service under the Chat for Women's Livelihood Accelerator Program. This platform provided a seamless way for participants to access skills training interactively and conveniently, ensuring continuous learning beyond the event. The training sessions covered diverse and practical topics, including: Introduction to technology and the benefits of the digital world. Bookkeeping for effective financial management. Using social media to boost business growth. Online safety tips to avoid scams and protect digital assets. Tech Herfrica’s goal of equipping women to leverage technology for increased income was undeniably achieved. By the end of the program, 93.3% of participants reported feeling confident using their phones to generate income online. To further enhance their experience and ensure sustained growth, the participants received incentives such as data and transport stipends. They were also added to a thriving WhatsApp community of over 700 women across Nigeria. This platform facilitates trade, helps women connect with potential customers, and fosters collaboration among members. A heartfelt thank you to our partners for making this life-changing initiative possible. Together, we are creating opportunities and equipping women to transform their businesses and communities.

  • The digital divide remains a significant barrier to economic empowerment for women in rural communities. In Nigeria, for instance, despite women comprising nearly 50% of the agricultural workforce, they still lack access to digital tools and financial services. This gap increases poverty, thereby limiting economic growth and independence for these women and girls. To address this challenge, Tech Herfrica and Women for Liberty Africa are partnering to provide FREE training for 100 market women. This initiative, aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 5, 8, and 9), aims to equip these women with the skills and confidence to thrive in the digital economy. On Sunday, December 15th, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, we will empower market women to leverage their smartphones, boosting sales, connecting with customers, and accessing new markets. Our goal is to create a scalable and sustainable model, enabling us to expand our impact and reach more women in rural communities. Join us in bridging the digital divide and unlocking economic opportunities for women. Visit our website to learn more about our mission, partnership opportunities, and how you can support our efforts to empower women and girls in rural communities. Thanks to Turn.io with support for the amazing chat service. So far, over 25j00 women have benefited from this service. #DigitalInclusion #WomenEmpowerment #EconomicGrowth #TechHerfrica #WomenForLibertyAfrica

This picture shows a group of resilient women in Kaduna State, learning how to better their lives using smarphones and the internet. At Tech Herfrica, we are opening doors for rural women by equipping them with practical digital skills that are changing the way they do business. Through our training programs—delivered in local languages—women learn how to use simple apps like WhatsApp and Facebook to reach new customers, grow their businesses, and boost their income. We also show them how to keep basic records, helping them stay organized and track their progress. These tools are more than just convenient—they’re bridges to financial growth, social inclusion, and opportunities that were previously out of reach. Our WhatsApp chat service takes learning even further. It allows us to conduct training sessions in multiple locations at the same time, connecting women in places like Ikorodu and Gombe with the knowledge they need to succeed. The impact is clear: women are earning more, building confidence, and becoming active contributors in their communities. With every skill learned and app mastered, they’re unlocking their full potential and creating lasting change for themselves and their families. This is the future we are building—one skill, one app, one story at a time. Let us make it happen together!

  • At Tech Herfrica we are closing the digital divide by equipping women in underserved communities with the tools and resources they need to improve their livelihoods, grow their businesses, and access new opportunities. Here is how we are making an impact: 📚 Digital Skills Training: We provide hands-on training in digital essentials like bookkeeping, social media marketing, and online safety, helping women expand their businesses and enhance their daily lives. Chat-Based Learning: Through our partnership with Turn.io, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, we have launched a chat platform offering digital and financial literacy courses. This platform connects rural women to new markets, increasing their income and boosting their confidence. Building Strong Networks: Our digital communities offer a safe space for women to connect, share experiences, and support each other. These networks encourage women to take charge of their futures and challenge societal barriers like GBV. Financial Access: We introduce women to digital financial tools, helping them gain control over their finances, access credit, and achieve financial security, reducing their vulnerability to abuse. At Tech Herfrica, we believe that when women have the right tools and opportunities, they can break barriers and rewrite their stories. Technology is their bridge to a stronger, more resilient future—and we are here to walk that journey with them.

  • This post from Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) is why we do what we do! The digital divide is glaring and it's even more apparent in rural communities. The digital divide is not just an occurrence, it's becoming a growing plague. In the words of Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni '"The digital divide is not just about the lack of access to technology or its meaningful use—it is about being cut off from opportunities. For rural women, it means being left behind in a world that is constantly advancing, making it more difficult to grow their businesses or agricultural ventures in the face of climate challenges, support their families, or even envision a future beyond their immediate needs. Bridging this gap gives them a genuine chance to thrive." As we step into this new month, let us commit to closing this gapthrough advocacy, innovation, and action, so that every rural woman has the chance to thrive and shape her own future.

Access to technology is key, but millions of women are left behind. In today’s digital age, women face critical barriers to ICT access that impact their leadership potential. It's time to act and empower women through ICT, closing the gap and unlocking their potential for a more inclusive digital economy. Together, we can transform the future by supporting women in tech.
