On Tuesday, 3rd of December 2024, the Lagos Innovates Unit of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) held the Pitch Day for the 10th Cohort of the Idea Hub Program. This marked a significant milestone in our mission to continue supporting early-stage startups in Lagos! Changing Lives, 1 Graduate at a Time Our recent graduation ceremony was a testament to the impact of PLP. Our Graduates gathered to celebrate their achievements, and I was struck by the transformative power of our program. Learners shared how changed their lives were celebrating the skills and confidence they now have to follow their dreams. PLP and #Jobred are committed to improving livelihoods by providing learners with the skills and tools they need to succeed in the job market. Our focus on creating partnerships for internships and jobs across Africa is yielding exciting results, and I'm proud to be at the forefront of this effort particularly as we launched our ‘Talent Hub!’ This innovative platform connects our top learners with job opportunities, internships, and mentorship programs. We're excited to see the impact it will have on our learners' careers and the African job market. I will keep saying how important it is to me to be part of a project that crosses boundaries to make a tangible difference in people's lives and the importance of creating sustainable solutions that address the root causes of social and economic challenges. These organizations—such as The Nest Innovation Technology Park Ltd, Impact Hub Lagos, Co-creation HUB (CcHUB), and other innovation labs—play an indispensable role in transforming raw potential into scalable and sustainable businesses. By providing tailored training, mentorship, and access to markets, ESOs empower entrepreneurs with the skills, networks, and resilience needed to overcome challenges, innovate boldly, and build ventures that tackle some of Africa's most pressing issues. They don’t just nurture businesses; they create catalysts for transformative change. As Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape attracts global attention—fueled by its youthful population, growing talent pool, and untapped opportunities—ESOs are critical for bridging gaps in mentorship, access to funding, and operational excellence. They prepare founders to rise above the noise of polished pitch decks, focusing instead on building sound business models, clear value propositions, and sustainable growth strategies.
