To every journey one starts, there is always an eventual destination. My FUTA journey dates back to 2017 when I was counselled to apply for the FUTA PDS program after two attempts at trying to get into university and falling short of the cut-off mark by heartbreaking points and then there was another school (name withheld) that I made required cutoff point but I wasn't granted admission (I never had below 200 in my UTME attempts). I came to Animal Production and Health department FUTA and I was just there actually. I was just doing my own. FUTA was never in my list of schools. The first semester in FUTA, I wrote a 4.43 and I was indifferent. My CGPA dropped well after 100 level second semester and this time I was angry because that semester was one I considered as that which put me on my toes the most. Fast forward to 200 level, I became a middleman for laptop repairs ventures and I had to combine going to Oja (a popular market in Akure) with other activities. I remember checking my result in 200 level and Dr Omotoso, the lecturer-in-charge asked if I knew I had a first-class potential and while I didn't reflect on that statement immediately, it became a seed that would later germinate. Dr Ayeni who would later supervise my final year thesis counselled me to ensure that money does not sway me away from my academic pursuits because he noticed I started resuming school late abd that was because I was teaching UTME tutorials. 300-level first semester came and that was my first perfect CGPA (5.0). I made it a practice ever since then. However, I fell short of 5.0 in my last semester by 0.04 (I wrote a 4.96). Today is convocation day at The Federal University of Technology, Akure. It is Class 22 (my class) and Class 23 celebrating their travail and their eventual triumph. Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) was a training ground indeed. I am graduating today from undergraduate studies in FUTA with a 4.75 out of a possible 5.0 CGPA. Beyond being a First-Class Hons graduate, I am committed to applying whatsoever things I have learnt in FUTA to solve real-life problems. I am also open to opportunities in line with advancing my academic pursuit in the field of Animal Production and Health. I am thankful to my brothers (my fellow graduates) Ogunjide Akinwale, Boluwatife Enoch Owolabi Kehinde Hussein, ODEWOLE for driving me to excellence and believing that I could do it. I appreciate my amiable leader Mateen ADEBAYO (mNSAP ..., mASAN) who taught me to combine leadership with academics, helping me navigate through Agricultural Students Parliament as an honourable and a departmental electoral representative three consecutive times. P.S: I really looked forward to being at the convocation ceremony but being far away, the bureaucratic structure of NYSC stalled the process. I will have proper pictures for memories someday. To God alone be all the glory.

Today marks the end of two amazing months with Oyindamola, a final year student at the Lagos State University. In the last eight weeks, Oyindamola Idowu has served as the program assistant for our climate change project in Lagos, Nigeria. She was successful in mentoring 45 high school students during a 5-week climate awareness project at Gec comprehensive college, instituting a climate change club in the school, and managing complex problems and resources. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Oyindamola and wish her the very best in future endeavors.

  • This week, our team in Tanzania took a significant step in evaluating the effectiveness of the LeadSmart project through a focus group interview with the students who participated in the project in February and March 2024. The focus group discussion aimed to assess the behavioral changes among the students who benefited from the LeadSmart project. Through it, we gained insight into the impact of the Lead-Smart project on its beneficiaries. Our team evaluated the student's development in the following key areas: - improvement in leadership skills and confidence. - Shifts in attitudes towards education and personal development. - Improvements in relationships with peers and the community. - Application of learned skills in real-life situations. The insights gathered from today's focus group interview will be invaluable in informing our future programs and ensuring that we continue to meet the evolving needs of young people across Africa. #Leadershipdevelopment #LeadSmart #TYIL
