  • 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗶𝗻-𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗵 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆- 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗹𝗲-𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝘀 Grace Alele-Williams was a Nigerian mathematician and educator who made history as the first Nigerian woman to earn a PhD in mathematics and the first female Vice-Chancellor of a Nigerian university. Born on December 16, 1932, in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, Grace Alele-Williams obtained her PhD in mathematics education from the University of Chicago in 1963. In 1985, she made history by becoming the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, a position she held until 1992. She was honoured with the title of Order of the Niger (1987), Centenary Award (2014) and honorary doctorates from several Nigerian universities. She paved the way for women in mathematics and education in Nigeria and inspired generations of students and educators.
