  • Announcement: Launch of the Accelerating Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene Economy in Nigeria Project We are pleased to announce the commencement of the Accelerating Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene Economy in Nigeria project, funded by the United Nations’ Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF) and the Ministry of Water Resources, Nigeria. This 30-month initiative, implemented by WaterAid Nigeria, aims to address market challenges and engage the private sector to create a viable sanitation economy in Bauchi State. Key objectives include: >Scaling up access to safe water and sanitation services. >Supporting economic empowerment through WASH-related business opportunities for women and youth. >Promoting innovative solutions for hygiene and sanitation management. >Strengthening community-led management and maintenance of WASH infrastructure. This project will benefit up to 900,000 people, focusing on vulnerable groups, including women, children, and internally displaced persons. “It is unacceptable that preventable diseases like cholera continue to wreak lives and communities in Nigeria and globally. We are committed to working with the government of Nigeria and partners to apply the best learnings from development finance and market-based approaches to boost valiant ongoing efforts and scale up access to fit-for-purpose sanitation solutions in cholera hotspots,” said Dominic O’Neill, Executive Director, SHF. Together, we aim to build a thriving, inclusive sanitation economy and improve health resilience in Nigeria.

  • WaterAid in collaboration with the Lagos State government and funding from the PepsiCo Foundation, Cummins Inc., Armani and Kimberly-Clark Corporation commemorated World Toilet Day with a symposium. The event brought together WASH stakeholders, students and partners in the state to discuss the theme 'Toilets: A Place for Peace' in a panel conversation and through debates and drama presentations from students. It also provided an opportunity to showcase and distribute our Hygiene Behaviour Change cues and materials as a reminder to practice good hygiene. #WTD #Cummins #PepsiCoFoundation

  • Access to safe and comfortable toilets in public places that women, girls, and persons with disabilities can use with dignity and without concerns is a necessity. WaterAid Nigeria with funding support from 'Who Gives A Crap' participated in the second phase of the Impact Accelerator Innovation Challenge. Our innovation for the challenge aimed at improving access to toilets in public places. We worked with the Bauchi State government to generate evidence from research, including users’ feedback on public toilets in motor parks and marketplaces to influence the review of public toilet designs in the state. Watch as Hafsat narrates her experience using toilets in the market where she sells her goods. For full-length video copy and paste this https://lnkd.in/dxc22rb5 on your browser. #WASH4All
