Preparing the next generation of Women in Technology
About us
We are on a mission to create a world where women are empowered to reach their full potential in the tech industry. Since our launch in 2018, we have been committed to breaking down barriers and providing access to opportunities for women in our community. Our approach is simple yet effective - we focus on driving women into tech spaces through networks, programs, and community building. We believe that building a solid community of women in tech can create a supportive and inclusive environment that enables women to thrive. One of the ways we achieve this is through our flagship event, the largest women in tech conference in Nigeria. This event brings together some of the industry's most inspiring and successful women to share their experiences and insights with our community. We also provide mentorship, professional development resources, and access to hiring opportunities to support women in accelerating their career growth. But our commitment continues beyond there. We support female tech founders by providing them with resources and access to capital from our network of partners. We believe empowering female entrepreneurs can help drive innovation and create a more diverse and inclusive tech industry. At Wetech, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we are dedicated to creating a world where women have equal opportunities to succeed in tech.

I don’t think I have taken the time to talk about my experience speaking at the Wetech Conference It’s a conference focused on bringing together women in the tech and entrepreneurial space. Having a conference exclusively for women and organized by women on such a large scale is a wonder to behold. You need to understand why I say this. Throughout this year, I have spent quite a bit of time researching and studying two critical phenomena: “social and racial discrimination” and “gender discrimination.” I watched documentaries, read articles, and movies, and stumbled upon stories of inspiring women like Gutenberg. It would interest you to know that…. There was a time when women were regarded as second-class citizens—or even third-class if you were both black and a woman. In the past, women faced many barriers in business. They couldn't get credit, own property, or take on leadership roles. They needed male approval to sign contracts and were excluded from business education and networks. The gender pay gap and workplace discrimination held them back. Restrictions on travel and biased business laws also limited their chances. Social norms discouraged women from pursuing business careers. Honestly, I am glad to say that some of these things are in the past. Not all, but some. 😅 Regardless, we have come a long way. Fast forward to today, we see two women, Gabriella U. and Flora Uwadiegwu organizing an event of this scale on this continent—Africa. It’s beautiful. It’s a testament to how far we have come and how much further we need to go. At the conference, I got to interact with women like Amaka Okechukwu Opara who started a venture fund called WEAV (Women's Enterprise Acceleration Vehicle) focused solely on women—not because statistics say so, but because it has been proven through the success of their investments. I also got to meet women like Atinuke Idowu who, together with her co-founder Termii Group built the bedrock of one of Africa’s most promising startups. I met another inspiring woman Cikü Mugambi who leads one of Africa’s largest trucking companies Kobo360 working on the other side at International Monetary Fund funding that same company. Our sponsor Opeoluwa Abitoye 😌 of Flutterwave shared secrets about building client relationships in B2B startups after doing this for years at one of Africa’s biggest startups. Seeing women doing great things at this scale is such a delight and a testament given our history. I want to thank Gabriella U. and Flora Uwadiegwu for not giving up on this dream, for pushing through the odds, and making this happen. Lady Kay 🇳🇬🌈 was such a phenomenal host. See you at the next Wetech Conference!
