  • *Goodbye HoloLens? A $22 Billion Missed Opportunity* The whispers have grown louder, and the signs are increasingly clear: the future of Microsoft's HoloLens looks bleak. Reports of widespread device discontinuation and dwindling technical support paint a picture of a product struggling to find its place. But perhaps the biggest blow came with the loss of the US Military's Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) contract – a deal estimated to be worth a staggering $22 billion. While HoloLens found some traction in the enterprise market, the IVAS contract was arguably its lifeline. It represented a massive investment and a chance to solidify HoloLens as a leader in the mixed reality space. Its loss leaves a significant void, especially as the market becomes increasingly competitive. What makes this story even more compelling is the rise of Anduril, the defense technology company founded by Palmer Luckey. For those who remember the early days of VR, Luckey's name is synonymous with Oculus, the VR startup acquired by Facebook (now Meta). After his departure from Oculus, Luckey shifted his focus to defense, and now, his company, Anduril, is poised to take over the reins of the IVAS project. It's a fascinating turn of events. Anduril Industries will essentially be building upon the foundation laid by Microsoft's HoloLens, taking the technology in a new direction. This begs the question: What went wrong for Microsoft? Was it a failure to adapt to the evolving needs of the military? Were there technical challenges that couldn't be overcome? Or was it simply outmaneuvered by a more agile and innovative competitor? The loss of the IVAS contract and the subsequent rise of Anduril represent a significant missed opportunity for Microsoft. It serves as a reminder that even with groundbreaking technology, success is never guaranteed. What are your thoughts on the future of mixed reality in defense and beyond? #HoloLens #Microsoft #IVAS #MixedReality #DefenseTech #Innovation #Technology

  • Nigerian government reels out it's national broadband alliance to accelerate digitisation and broadband connectivity across the Country

As we work towards accelerating our collective prosperity as a nation, improving our connectivity infrastructure is a critical part of our plans as a government. To support that investment and tackle the challenge of low and non-consumption of data and its resultant poor ROI in nationwide fibre network, we launched the National Broadband Alliance for Nigeria #NBAN to help foster collaboration for broadband development and adoption, as well as position Nigeria at the forefront of the global digital landscape. So as we improve the quality and quality of supply of broadband, we are also creating ways to increase demand.

  • Nigerian authorities shared it's National artificial intelligence Strategy amidst growing interest in Artificial intelligence

Last April we brought together Artificial Intelligence (AI) experts of Nigerian descent to support us in developing a document that will serve as a roadmap towards achieving our aspiration to participate actively in leveraging the ethical use of AI for national development. I’m therefore pleased to release the draft document — which has been carefully reviewed by all participants from the workshop — to the public to receive your input and further dissect its content. We believe that the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS) will help us to responsibly steer the AI revolution towards achieving our goals around job creation, social inclusion, and sustainable development. You can download the draft National Artificial Intelligence Strategy below or at this link here: https://bit.ly/nais-2024. We look forward to receiving your feedback at ncair@nitda.gov.ng
