  • The super year of elections came to a close for the Yiaga Africa team with the 2024 Election and Observation Study Mission to Ghana, the 9th presidential and parliamentary elections since her retun to to a multiparty democracy in 1992. The election was held on December 7, 2024. The delegation included Dr. Aisha Abdullahi, Sen. S. A Alli, Hon. Prince Balogun, Barr. Afam Osigwe, Mr. Majeed Bakare, Cynthia Mbamalu, Samson Itodo, among others. • As 2024 comes to a close, big changes are being discussed for Nigeria’s elections! INEC has proposed a shift away from the PVC as the sole way to vote, and calls for reforms in data management, independent candidacy, and the need for a less partisan electoral body are gaining traction. But with issues like vote-buying and election violence still lingering, what’s next for Nigeria’s democracy? Catch up on all the latest in our 2024 final issue here: https://bit.ly/3VCYDds Wishing you a joyful holiday season. #TheBallot

Our 2024 Constituency Office Interns wrapped up the two-day workshop with a special visit to the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS. The interns had the opportunity to engage in an insightful one-on-one session with Delegation representatives, learning about the EU’s role in supporting democratic governance and sustainable development in Nigeria through initiatives like the #eu_sdgn, and gained inspiration for their own roles in strengthening legislature-constituent relations. The interns also had a hands-on learning experience at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, where they dived into legislative practices and strategies for impactful constituency engagement. Now, the interns are deployed to their constituencies to work closely with legislative aides for three months and strengthen ties between legislators and their communities. #EU4DemocracyNG #ParticipatoryGovernance #YouthEngage #EUSDGN #legislative

  • As we reflect on the recent Ondo State governorship elections, it's clear that Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Media play a critical role in shaping the election ecosystem. Their tireless efforts ensure transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement throughout the process. Yesterday, Yiaga Africa hosted a post-election debrief, bringing together key stakeholders to assess the post-election environment in Ondo State. The discussions provided valuable insights into the public's attitude, the experiences of various actors, and, most importantly, the steps needed to improve our electoral system and strengthen democracy moving forward. Together, we are working towards a more inclusive and robust electoral process. #WatchingtheVote #ElectionIntegrity #DemocracyInAction #PostElectionReview

  • With the Ondo Governorship election now concluded, the #WatchingtheVote team continues to better our systems and processes. Yesterday, we held a debrief with our Local Government Supervisors and the State Focal Person to examine our deployment mission for the election. Of great importance to the team is the post-election environment, emerging issues, and trends. The best people to provide us with first-hand information are our supervisors who form an integral part of the WTV deployment structure.
