🌍 Climate trends 2025: What to Expect? 2025 is set to be a milestone year for companies reporting under the CSRD for the first time. 🔎 Outlook · Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP): A highly anticipated update will introduce guidance on FLAG emissions (Forest, Land, and Agriculture), focusing on emissions related to land use, deforestation, and agriculture. These guidelines are particularly relevant for companies directly or indirectly involved in agricultural products. The update is expected to include new emission categories specifically addressing FLAG emissions. Additionally, the GHGP standard itself will undergo a long-awaited revision, which is set to conclude by 2027. However, critical decisions will already be published in 2025. Want to know more? Read GHGP’s reflections on 2024 and its outlook for 2025: GHG Protocol Blog >> https://lnkd.in/ens_RcZg · Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi): New sector-specific standards (e.g., for financial institutions, chemicals, energy, oil & gas, automotive, and apparel) will support emissions reductions in line with 1.5°C goals. The number of companies with validated SBTi targets is expected to more than double. Work will also continue on revising the Corporate Net Zero Standard. This revision offers SBTi the opportunity to refine critical concepts such as target achievement, value chain decarbonization (scope 3), and neutralization. · Interoperability of standards: Collaboration among EFRAG, CDP, SBTi, and TCFD is harmonizing regulations and reporting requirements. New tools are being developed to help companies meet multiple standards simultaneously. 📊 What does this mean in practice? · Increased transparency: Publicly listed companies will take the lead. In March 2025, the bar will be set for other large organizations, which will need to begin publishing their first reports. This surge in transparency will drive progressive insights as companies benchmark their scope 3 categories against those of competitors and partners, leading to higher expectations. · Improved emissions factors and data: With more life cycle assessments (LCAs) being conducted and enhanced databases, baseline emissions measurements will be updated, and targets refined. · Exponential growth of SBTi targets: A growing number of companies are setting science-based targets aligned with the Paris Agreement. Pressure will increase across supply chains as large producers with Paris-aligned targets demand more from their suppliers. 📘 Want to learn more? We’re closely monitoring these developments and will share further insights soon. Let’s look to the future! 🚀 #CSRD #SBTi #GHGP #Sustainability #ClimateReporting #ESG

Anniek Bakker recently joined us as a managing consultant, so it’s high time to introduce her! 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 2Impact Consulting? I have a background in business administration with a focus on risk and control. After years of working as a freelancer, I realized I wanted to collaborate with a team to develop sustainable solutions. There’s so much happening in this field, and working alone started to feel limiting—I believe we can create more impact together. Together, we can achieve more for our clients and drive sustainable change. 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲? Not necessarily. I started in risk management within the financial sector. Interestingly, I see many similarities between the development of risk management over the past 15 years and the current evolution of sustainability. I now use that experience in my work. Additionally, I’ve worked as a consultant in various sectors, and that variety helps me tremendously in understanding client needs and crafting sustainable solutions that truly fit. 📢 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐐&𝐀 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐔 𝐓𝐚𝐱𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 with a couple of key insights for you. Last week the European Commission published a new document containing a fresh Q&A on the interpretation and implementation of the complex EU Taxonomy legislation. The (draft) Commission Notice answers questions on the Environmental Delegated Act, the Climate Delegated Act and the Disclosures Delegated Act in a way that helps to understand the reasoning behind the regulation. Some overarching key insights: ✅ If a company is not able to assess whether a Taxonomy-eligible activity that is not material to the business, complies with the Technical Screening Criteria, it should report those activities as not Taxonomy-aligned without any further assessment. 📃If an activity is eligible to contribute to more than one environmental objective, a (non-financial) undertaking shall assess whether or not the activity is aligned with each eligible objective, and report the outcome accordingly. 🏗️ A company is active in construction if it performs the actual construction activities. It should substantially bear all of the economic risks and rewards from the construction. This is a relevant distinguishment when working with subcontractors or within a larger construction project. Advice and research is excluded. ☀️ For renewable energy projects, an activity can be classified as the 'installation' of renewable energy technologies if the technology source is attached to a building and intended to provide electricity primarily for the building itself. 'Construction' and 'operation' of specific renewable energy sources, such as electricity from wind power, however requires larger scale, commercial and self-standing renewable energy sources plants. For the answer to some 150 more Taxonomy-questions, dive into the 75-page Commission Notice (table of content on page 5), or reach out to us via info@ 2impact.nl
