🌟 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 📚✨ This weekend, I’m diving into two fascinating books that promise to fuel my passion for personal and professional growth: 1️⃣ 𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 by Eline Meijer –the very person who introduced me to the world of 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬. This book delves into the power of discovering and unleashing your unique talents. I can’t wait to explore more about tapping into our 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 and helping others do the same! 💪 2️⃣ 𝐇𝐞𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐞𝐳𝐞𝐥𝐟 by 𝐑𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭 – a deep dive into the art of exceptional performance. an insightful exploration of what drives people to exceptional performance. Giphart interviewed thirteen remarkable Dutch achievers, each of whom completed a CliftonStrengths talent assessment and shared their stories. What drives people to achieve extraordinary results? What do high achievers do differently, and what lessons can we take from them to thrive in our own lives? 🤔✨ For those unfamiliar, the CliftonStrengths '𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐧' identifies your top talents, helping you focus on what you naturally do best. As a CliftonStrengths coach, I’m passionate about helping others unlock their potential by embracing their unique mix of strengths. These books perfectly align with my ongoing journey to understand what makes people excel and how we can unlock our full potential. Can’t wait to share my takeaways! Have you read these books, or do you have similar recommendations? Let me know in the comments! 📖💡 #CliftonStrenghts #PersonalGrowth #WeekendReads #ExceptionalPerformance

How would you handle an employee that calls in sick after a bad performance review? Or unexpectedly joins a yoga retreat abroad, while on long-term sick leave? 🤔 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲! 😉 Sick (leave) happens 🤒. It's part of being human, and working in HR. Our last podcast with Emma White discussed mental wellbeing, and how to build a culture of 'thriving' in order to reduce burnout and sickness at work. But when you're past that point, and need to deal with people who are already sick...how do you handle absenteeism cases effectively, with kindness and confidence? Join Paul and Florentine as they break down this complex area. They'll share their best tips and tricks to: 💊 Navigate the sick leave regulations maze 💊 Spot the 'yellow flags' - when to intervene? 💊 Rethink how we approach sick days and culture 💊 Best support an employee's recovery and reintegration 💊 Work smarter with the wider sick leave team (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘣𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺!) 💊 Use data to refine absenteeism processes, and target key company issues Absenteeism is not the nicest side of HR, but it's unavoidable and SO important to get right. And when you do, it can really make a positive impact on employee lives, especially when they're struggling. Always remember: 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘬. 💡 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗘𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗗𝗘 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗡𝗢𝗪 🎧 https://tr.ee/cHI10BMZhr PS We'll also be deep diving further into the topic of sickness in our upcoming newsletter. 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿: be endlessly ghosted by your boss, or haunted by an extreme micromanager? 👻 The results are in from our last Tuesday Dilemma poll, with a VERY definitive answer: 𝟵𝟮% would prefer a boss who is never available, over one who micromanages everything. 👀 💡𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴💡 👉 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗲 Trust and autonomy are key drivers of job satisfaction. So excess oversight can hit team morale and turnover rates, hard. It also stifles innovation, productivity and creativity. 25% of employees under micromanagers avoid taking initiative or explore new ideas, anxiously focusing instead on meeting strict - and often arbitrary - expectations (Oxford). Per Steve Jobs: We hire smart people to tell us what to do, not the other way round! 👉 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 Unavailable managers leave employees feeling isolated, directionless and undervalued - all major engagement and retention killers. Lack of proper feedback or support leads to: • Career growth stalls (⬆️ attrition) • Burnout rises (15% higher for teams with absentee bosses) (Eurofound) • Preventable miscommunications and costly mistakes 😱 Everyone pays the price for a ghosting manager. 👉 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 For poll purposes we're discussing a 'dilemma' of two extremes. But of course, balance is key. Great leaders are available when needed, but trust their teams to thrive. Create an environment of support and empowerment, and engagement and innovation will naturally flow. 🚀 Context also matters. Higher levels of oversight can benefit very junior or highly technical roles, where precision and process outweigh creativity, or more time is needed to develop that autonomous expertise. The key is knowing when to let go. 👉 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗼 Unavailability often stems from overwhelm and priorities overload; micromanagement from anxiety about lack of control or inexperience. Perhaps there is a personality and values clash, but bad management doesn't always = bad people or intentions. If you are a manager, understand that you have a BIG impact on your employees. It's important to recognise and address these potential tendencies, and that not everyone has the inherent skills or desire to manage people. And if you’re currently frustrated by one: • Try to understand 𝘸𝘩𝘺 they are so over/un-present? • Are they even aware of these behaviours, have they been given the feedback? • What specific pain points can you target, to effectively ‘upward manage’ the situation (for both your sakes)? 💬 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿? #peopleandculture #HRtips #TuesdayTips #micromanagers

𝗦𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀? 🤒 You're not alone - the average employee absence rate in the Netherlands is 𝟰.𝟵%. That's almost 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 out on sick leave (short or long-term), at one time! While absenteeism is impossible to prevent altogether, there are ways to optimise the process and reduce the handling pain for everyone involved. And if you missed out on our recent meetup about how to do this (see last post), no fear. It's also the topic of our next 7people podcast! Paul and Florentine will dive into all our tips and tricks in the full episode. But for now, a sneak peek of one way to approach this👇 Sickness at work exists on a spectrum. What if we rethought sick leave for those in-between days, where you're not feeling terrible, but not great? 🥴 Instead of forcing employees to choose between powering through or taking a full sick day (with all the admin and costs it triggers), could we offer alternate outlets for recovery? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: 💊 Less burnout 💊 More sustainable performance 💊 Positive work culture based on trust and autonomy 💊 Earlier rest = more salvageable recovery before hitting breaking point 💊 Fewer full sick days (whether now, or later as a result of forced powering through) Full episode drops this Thursday. 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲. Not the sexiest HR topic, but an integral one to our jobs. Everyone gets sick sometime! 😷 But it can be a technical and emotional minefield to navigate effectively, with all the legal regulations and delicate people dynamics involved. So yesterday we invited Karlien Spobeck to the 7people clubhouse, for our final People & Community Meetup of the year. Karlien is that rare HR professional who loves handling sick leave cases, making it her core specialism. And now she's helped ~30 HR professional attendees upgrade their knowledge on this critical subject, so that they too can 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼. 💪 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁 👉 And follow 7people to stay updated on cool future People & Culture learning events like this! PS We're busy planning our calendar for next year's meetups. Drop us a comment or DM if you have theme/speaker ideas you'd like covered 😉 #peopleandculture #HRtips #absenteeism #learningevents

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? 69% of employees believe their managers have 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 on their mental health as their partner, and even 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 than their doctors or therapists.* 🤯 The impact can be both positive or negative, and sadly we can't always choose our managers at work.
