Seventeen cooperative leaders from #HậuGiang gained essential skills in identifying business partners and negotiating commercial contracts. ➡️ During the visit, participants witnessed Ea Kiet Cooperative’s success in implementing #Fairtrade standards for #sustainablecoffeeproduction. They learned how Fairtrade certification ensures fair trade through sustainable minimum prices, supports community development, protects labor rights, promotes #environmentallyfriendly practices, advances #genderequality, and empowers smallholder farmers within the cooperative. This independent certification guarantees transparent compliance, creating a solid foundation for sustainable growth. ➡️ The training sessions on #contractnegotiation provided hands-on experience in structuring contracts, evaluating potential partners, and refining negotiation techniques. Participants practiced effective communication and collaboration skills, boosting their confidence in applying these strategies. 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. It’s essential for cooperatives to focus on serving their members rather than merely pursuing customers, as this is their primary purpose. ➡️ This event not only deepened participants’ understanding of Fairtrade and enhanced their contract negotiation capabilities but also fostered connections with Ea Kiet and other stakeholders. This reflects Agriterra’s commitment to empowering cooperatives for sustainable development. ➡️ Stay tuned for upcoming events designed to meet the unique challenges and needs of your cooperative. Together, we can transform knowledge and experiences into actionable growth strategies! #Agriterra #cooperative #forfarmers

On November 14, 2024, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda unveiled four transformative food and nutrition security programs, set to drive sustainable change for smallholder farmers in rural Ugandan communities. Agriterra is proud to play a pivotal role in two of these groundbreaking initiatives by empowering farmer organisations to become centres of service delivery for smallholder farmers: 1. 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗧): Spearheading this project alongside Wageningen University & Research and the Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA). 2. 🌱 Supporting food security with climate action in Kenya 🌍 Agriterra is working in Kenya to improve food security through climate-friendly farming. Together with partners like Moyee Coffee, Agriterra is creating a low-carbon coffee supply chain that uses bio-fertilisers, compost, and sustainable farming to lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and help with rising synthetic fertiliser costs. 💡 Traditional coffee farming relies on synthetic fertilisers, which produce high CO2 emissions. Agriterra's team, led by adviser Daan Vreeburg, supports coffee cooperatives in switching to bio-fertilisers and composting, making coffee farming more climate-friendly and financially stable. 💬 Daan gives an example of a successful project: "Demo Farm is a regenerative coffee plantation where we grow coffee and other crops. The farm is now CO2-negative because the trees around the farm store CO2. With the Demo Farm, we want to show that our way of producing coffee generates more income than just growing one crop." 🌿☕ #COP29 #Kenya #coffee #foodsecurity #climateaction #climatesolutions

In this video 👇 you will follow the Ethiopian delegation during their study tour in the Netherlands, organised by Agriterra. The delegation consists of representatives from the Ethiopian government and the cooperative sector. This study tour aimed to gain insight into Dutch best practices in cooperatives, market linkages, and access to financing. By promoting trade between the Netherlands and Ethiopia and exchanging knowledge, we hope to build strong strategic relationships for mutual benefit in the agricultural sector. The delegation visited prominent Dutch cooperatives and explored how these organisations have grown into successful enterprises through collaboration and expansion. Agriterra hopes that this trip will result in valuable connections and bring new inspiration for the future of cooperatives in Ethiopia. https://lnkd.in/eThAC5hv Marco Schouten, Dawit Setegn, PMP®, Hailat Berhane, Ingrid Koedijk, Bertine Schieven, Nicole Maatkamp NCR - Nationale Coöperatieve Raad , Rob Donker , Marijke Flamman-Schuil Wageningen University & Research , Jos Bijman Wakuli, Yorick Bruins Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken Hugo Verkuijl, Cindy Van Den Boom LTO Nederland, Klaas Johan Osinga Rabobank, Acorn Rubiga Sivakumaran, Sharine Mertens, Corné De Louw Lisanne Oskam CZAV u.a., Jurriaan Visser Royal Cosun, Maarten Boudesteijn
