📣 Important Publication News 📣 🤝 With the support of the European Climate Foundation, AidEnvironment has developed in-depth profiles for all 27 EU member states, analysing 76 products included under the European Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR). 🔎 By focusing on key commodities— cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, wood, and rubber—these profiles help identify countries at higher risk of importing deforestation-linked products. 📊 Our analysis provides critical insights into trade flows, highlighting key supplier-importer relationships and potential deforestation exposure. This includes EU overviews of the total import volumes per forest-risk commodity, top-5 recipient countries for each forest-risk commodity, and key imported products per EU member state. Last Friday, Joana Faggin joined 📚 VTB Study Day 2024: EU Deforestation Regulation 🌳, an in-depth afternoon organized by the Dutch Tropical Forest Association (Vereniging Tropische Bossen). The EMMA4EU project was showcased by one of our partners, Jelle Behagel (WUR), who led discussions about the EUDR's recently approved one-year delay and implementation challenges, emphasizing the focus of the regulation on legality, traceability, and corporate responsibility. Several concerns about the setup and requirements of the regulation were raised by event participants. Among them, the lack of integration with existing initiatives in producing countries, the oversight of specific land ownership systems and local traditional governance, and the disproportionate benefit its stringent requirements might represent for large corporations, with the potential to worsen issues like monoculture, land conflicts, and market concentration. #EUDR #LandRights #CorporateResponsibility #Deforestation #sustainability #policy

We're happy to announce the launch of Mighty Earth's new Soy & Cattle Deforestation Tracker, which was developed in collaboration with AidEnvironment! 🔎 Check out the Soy & Cattle Deforestation Tracker here: https://lnkd.in/eetiz4KU 🔎 Read Mighty Earth's press release for more background on the tracker and how AidEnvironment's work has contributed to Mighty Earth's findings: https://lnkd.in/eQn5ykqQ Our colleague Joana Faggin says: “One of the goals of AidEnvironment’s Realtime Deforestation Monitoring (RDM) System is to analyze publicly available data to drive more transparency in commodity supply chains and to strengthen the implementation of traceability and zero-deforestation commitments, whether voluntary or legally-binding. This allows Mighty Earth to use the RDM analysis to engage directly with global soy traders and meatpackers.” #Soy #Cattle #DeforestationTracker #Environment #Brazil #Forest #JBS #Bunge #Cargill #AmazonForest
Bunge, Cargill and JBS are the “Terrible Trio” ranked worst for Brazilian deforestation on a new Mighty Earth platform that tracks both deforestation and scores companies on their inaction and lack of accountability in tackling forest loss in their supply chains. Our new Soy & Cattle Deforestation Tracker reveals clearing twice the size of London across the Amazon, Cerrado and the Pantanal with potential links to ten major soy traders and meatpackers. Backed by a database of 172 recent cases reported by AidEnvironment and Mighty Earth, we found 330,296 hectares of recent deforestation and land degradation across three Brazilian biomes from February 2022 to July 2024. The data snapshot shows that far from meeting many of the companies’ targets to be Deforestation and Conversion-Free (DCF) by 2025, the meat industry is continuing to wage a war on nature, with soy and cattle-driven deforestation still rampant. A third of this clearance occurred in protected areas, making it potentially illegal under Brazilian Law, and 66,129 hectares took place nearby or bordering Indigenous lands. Launching alongside the Tracker on the new platform, the Soy & Cattle Scorecard evaluates how companies have responded to deforestation alerts filed with them over the past year, placing JBS and Cargill at the bottom of the table. Given what Brazil has experienced this year – record forest fires, flooding, and drought – soy and cattle traders need to urgently stop buying from farms involved in deforestation, which is fueling global heating and worsening the climate and nature crisis. We’re proud to have worked with a pioneer and learned a lot from Aliet Green throughout the 🥥 Sugar and Steam project 🌴 Our contribution was being responsible for the Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as the land and water management aspect of the project. We're eager to do more impactful work similar to what has been achieved here with the farmers! #nonprofit #sustainability #empowerment
The “Sugar & Steam” project supports small-scale organic farmers in the Kulon Progo region of Indonesia. These farmers have experienced declining crop yields for many years due to extreme weather and poor land management practices. 🌱 Aliet Green, a top producer of organic food, understood that the problems the farmers faced were impacting its main product: coconut sugar. Today, they are working with 2,000 farmers, ensuring women farmers have equal access to training programmes, expanding on traditional opportunities. 🥥 The success of the “Sugar & Steam” project comes from the cooperation of different organisations, which brings together various experts. This collaborative approach ensures all farmers receive proper training and support, with a particular focus on developing women as agricultural leaders in their communities. ✅ As a result of these initiatives, farming households have achieved higher incomes and improved financial security. 🌍 To read more about this project and watch the full video, go to ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eStN8k8g

At AidEnvironment, we believe in the importance of ⚡ continuous learning and 📚 constantly improving our team's skills. As such, we held a training session on nonprofit communications, with both our Europe and Uganda offices in attendance. Led by our consultants Ana Natividad and Melissa Capiot, it was a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues across locations, learn from each other, and discuss ways to elevate our communication strategies. 🧠 Our colleague Sem Veerkamp shares, “It was nice to catch up and meet some of the Ugandan colleagues in the breakout session. It was also handy to get some guiding principles for communication, for example LinkedIn strategy, including tips that can be easily implemented by anyone.” 💻 Meanwhile David Mwayafu remarks, "I found the section on writing effective LinkedIn profiles particularly insightful. The idea of using a QR code at the end of presentations is a clever and efficient way to share information about the organisation." 🤝 As Marina Vara Gutiérrez sums it up, "We are excited to apply the valuable tips and insights shared during the session to improve our communication across the organisation." #Teamwork #LearningAndDevelopment #CommunicationSkills #ImpactfulCommunication #AidEnvironment #ContinuousImprovement #LinkedInTraining
