“My work is a reflection of my ongoing journey to find my place in a new society” Majd Suliman is an artist who moved from Aleppo to Germany. While painting provided solace during his time in Aleppo, his creative journey took a transformative turn in Germany, where he began building machines and incorporating technology into his work. Both as a nod to the country’s renowned engineering, but also as a commentary on the difficulties of cultural integration. His motion-based works delve into the challenges of identity and belonging, offering a fresh perspective on the immigrant experience in a land known for efficiency and progress. His work is currently on view at Madé van Krimpen in his solo exhibition ‘Moving Parts’. The exhibition brings together sculptures, technology and personal storytelling to explore Majd’s journey as an immigrant in Germany. The pieces intertwine beauty with struggle, humor with nostalgia, and evoke the disorienting feeling of being caught between two worlds. The exhibition runs until 7 December — experience it for yourself! 🔗 More information: https://lnkd.in/epQRX-Px 📷 1. ‘Attraction Chair’ by Majd Suliman part of ‘Moving Parts’. Reflecting on last Friday's gathering in Barcelona. Last week saw the opening of Manifesta Biennial 15 in Barcelona, attracting quite a few art professionals to the city. andrea rodriguez novoa (Co-Director of Barcelona Gallery Weekend) and our director Martina Halsema decided to spontaneously organise a casual drinks event for local, Dutch, Spanish, and international art professionals. It was a delightful gathering where we had the opportunity to meet, network, and toast. Thank you The Social Hub, Frank Uffen, and Maria Jesus Guirado for your hospitality and hosting us on your lovely rooftop! Barcelona Gallery Weekend 19–22 Sep 2024 & Amsterdam Art Week 21–25 May 2025

Last Friday, Capital C and Sijthoff Media hosted the Highest Herring Party on the roof of Capital C, with its beautiful glass dome and 360 - degree view of Amsterdam. Over 500 guests enjoyed fresh herring, live music, and an enthusiastic auction for an exclusive artwork. As proud members of the Capital C community we are happy to announce that the amount raised by the auction is donated to the Amsterdam Art Foundation. Willem Sijthoff, founder of Capital C, founder and CEO of Sijthoff Media and also co-founder and former member of the advisory board of Amsterdam Art decided to organise this event annually after a very successful edition last year. This year's auction featured a unique herring barrel designed by renowned artist Arno Coenen known for the iconic mural in Rotterdam's Market Hall and inspired by Keith Haring. Amsterdam Art Director Martina Halsema stated, "Art has the power to bring people together, and together we achieve so much more than alone. Collaboration and community is key and just like Capital C, Amsterdam Art is committed to connecting communities with each other (and with contemporary art) and making them accessible. We are all ambassadors of the creativity that makes Amsterdam so special. That's why we keep looking for new friendships and ways to join hands and harness our collective strength." Thank you to Capital C Amsterdam, Willem Sijthoff and Sijthoff Media for our longstanding friendship and collaboration, the artist Arno Coenen and the highest bidder for supporting our mission and vision.
