Last May and June, Arthur's Legal, Strategies & Systems organized two workshops for all BeOpen-DEP partners and any other participant or municipality for which this topic resonated. The main topic was about Data unlocking and Trust. Trust and related trustworthiness are always the main enablers, also in any of the digital, cyber and cyber-physical domains, any community, digital identity authentication and authorisation, and any information sharing. Top excuses for data sharing blocking were being elaborated on. Questions raised during the workshops were for instance ‘What are actually the excuses you get when trying to unlock data? Also, the question ‘What would you recommend others to go from Data Blocking to Data Unlocking’ and ‘How to avoid receiving too little data or too much data’ were among the topics discussed. Curious to see some of the results? We have summarized some of our findings on the BeOpen-DEP website. Looking forward hearing your thoughts.

We need a climate for change. People and the ecosystems we live in, in this Digital Age, have great capabilities to improve and sustain the quality of life for all. If we, public, private and otherwise, interact and team up. As we face and urgently need to deal with many societal challenges, we need a climate for change. This new, open access book is quite relevant, to start understanding how to address various Societal Challenges in a multimodal and intermodal manner: Automated Vehicles as a Game Changer for Sustainable Mobility (and Logistics), published by Springer Nature: https://lnkd.in/e5yW6S6s What are the benefits, which are the challenges to achieve those, and how to get the right stakeholders onboard and ecosystems, infrastructures, values and interests aligned? Congratulations on the editors, in particular Guy Fournier, Adriaan Boos, Dimitri Konstantas and Danielle Attias, as well as the other contributors to this book. I am honored to have been requested and able to write one of forewords, where I elaborate on The Five Ts: Transparency, Trust, Teamwork, Try & Transform. I welcome you to enjoy reading this - free - publication, use its valuable content, and join an ever-increasing community that is determined to foster the climate for change and focus on making the difference, for the short, mid and long term, whether local, regional, global or otherwise. #TypicallyArthurArthur's Legal, Strategies & Systems, ULTIMO project, Avenue Project, #InstituteForFutureOfLiving & #Flyve

One of our innovative and inspiring European project BeOpen-DEP, held its 3rd general assembly meeting after coming together in Naples and Porto last year. The event was hosted by the municipality of Cartagena, which is also participating as one of the project pilots. A main focus during its GA meeting has been the technical and methodological implementation of the project’s objective to ensure de development of a holistic framework, which is not only user-friendly but also helps improve the interoperability and quality of high-value public sector datasets. The project is the sum of 19 organizations from 8 countries of the European Union (Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain) and includes 8 Public Bodies: Naples, Herne, Cartagena, Molina de Segura, Torre Pacheco, Attica, Porto and Villa Planas. The focus areas of the High Value Datasets in this project are: Geospatial (in Vilnius, Torre Pacheco), Earth observation & Environment (in Vilnius and Molina de Segura), Meteorological (in Murcia and Attica), Mobility (in Herne, Naples, Cartagena and Porto). All these High Value Datasets with different objectives and coming in from different sources and European countries, will all be integrated and will interact in this new European based BeOpen-DEP platform. Their combinatoric value in this BeOpen-DEP platform will address and try to prevent and solve societal challenges such as: natural disasters, traffic management, introducing sustainable lighting for better health conditions and earth benefits, urban security, supporting first responders in decision making and assessing the impact of incidents based on urban mobility data, climate change mitigations and invading species detection. We at Arthur's Legal, Strategies & Systems were present during this GA during which Celine Prins hosted an interactive workshop regarding the Trust Framework and Exploitation Strategies. Accomplishing the project’s objectives should assist the facilitation of a new generation of artificial intelligence services and capabilities across the EU, making replication and adaption of the projects’ results easy for other municipalities and regions across the European Union.

Data is not a four-letter word. Data is omnipresent. Whether it is information (structured data), knowledge (combined information), experience (used knowledge) or otherwise, and whether it resides between our ears, in libraries, in sensors, in digital wallets, online or other systems and environments. Perhaps that is the reason why the notion of data is so difficult to grasp. Data is everywhere, but its true potential remains untapped. The EU is striving to unlock this potential ethically and securely through the "Europe Fit for the Digital Decade" initiative. Key aspects include establishing data governance frameworks, fostering innovation, and empowering citizens. The EU Data Strategy and the Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles provide guidelines for responsible data use. In this blog we talk about delivering on the EU Data Strategy in relationship to our appealing European project PISTIS in which we at Arthur's Legal, Strategies & Systems are proudly part of. The PISTIS project aims to implement the data strategy, as per the aforementioned Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles. For that, PISTIS for once is aiming to design and develop new technology tools for data marketplaces, in particular in three (3) demonstrator domains: Mobility & Urban Planning, Energy and Automotive. In that direction, PISTIS demonstrates practical implementation of trusted data sharing in areas like mobility, energy and automotive. Interested getting to know more? This blog helps you to familiarize yourself with the EU's digital strategy and the Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles to understand how data can be used responsibly and ethically. Enjoy the read!

The introduction of the first automated vehicles (AVs) in the frame of the ULTIMO project were ready for action in Groruddalen (Oslo), Norway. With Deutsche Bahn at the helm, ULTIMO joins 23 partners from eight European countries for a period of four years. These including discussing with various stakeholders such as potential public sector customer/user-side, with various international industry players as well as relevant policy makers why is the uptake of autonomous transportation, logistics and operations including the related societal multi- and intermodal ecosystems (public, private or public-private) is so slow, how to shape a serious market, both for manufacturers, integrators investors, procurers, operators, customers, users and society at large, and who to kick-start or otherwise expedite these. Curious getting to know what the current state of play is regarding the first autonomous cars in Europe and what the near plans in the future are?
