La transition bibliographique a un impact considérable sur les bibliothèques, que ce soit au niveau de la gestion des ressources, des outils ou de la formation du personnel. Ce changement de normes impose de repenser les pratiques de catalogage. Les bibliothécaires doivent donc apprendre à cataloguer selon une approche plus structurée, centrée sur les entités du modèle IFLA-LRM (œuvres, expressions, manifestations, et items). Ce changement affecte directement le SIGB (Système Intégré de Gestion de Bibliothèque), qui doit être compatible avec ces nouveaux formats.
