Battery Competence Cluster - NL (BCC-NL) is tackling this challenge by uniting industry, knowledge institutions, and government to develop a robust Dutch battery ecosystem. In our latest interview, Peter Engels, topic leader of Heavy-Duty Mobility within BCC-NL, shares insights on: 🔹 The added value of a strong local battery ecosystem for Dutch and international companies 🔹 The Material Independence & Circular Batteries project within the National Growth Fund, aimed at reducing reliance on rare materials and developing a recycling chain 🔹 The importance of collaboration between industry players, government bodies, and research institutions to accelerate battery innovation With a €296 million investment, this initiative aims to position The Netherlands as a key player in sustainable battery production, grid stability, and zero-emission heavy transport solutions. As Peter puts it: "𝘕𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘵𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘦—𝘉𝘊𝘊-𝘕𝘓 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥." 📖 Want to be part of the Dutch battery revolution? 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆: 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗝𝗮𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲! A major milestone in battery innovation! LeydenJar has successfully developed lithium-ion batteries with a 100% silicon anode that can achieve 500 charge-discharge cycles without external pressure. This breakthrough eliminates a key limitation of next-generation anodes and opens up new possibilities for higher energy density in consumer electronics and energy storage. 🔋 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? Silicon anodes can significantly boost battery capacity but tend to swell during charging, leading to early degradation. Until now, heavy external pressure (up to 1 MPa—the equivalent of three grand pianos on a smartphone) was required to maintain cell integrity. LeydenJar’s innovative design removes this constraint, making silicon anodes commercially viable for a wide range of applications. 📈 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? LeydenJar is actively working with battery manufacturers and OEMs to integrate this technology into next-generation devices. With the potential to increase battery energy density by up to 50%, this innovation could redefine power solutions for smartphones, laptops, wearables, and even electric vehicles. At BCC-NL, we closely follow groundbreaking battery developments like this—advancing the Dutch battery ecosystem through innovation and collaboration. #BatteryTechnology #SiliconAnodes #LeydenJar #EnergyStorage #Innovation #BCCNL
