Bonne Suits

This Thursday, we are releasing a special and important project: Onderland - an ode to the book. For her novel Onderland (released last May), @Alma Mathijsen, worked with nine people who, like herself, have experienced sexual abuse. They have all spent decades building a meticulously thought-out inner world. They invented their own magical strategies, which normally remain hidden. In Onderland their coping mechanisms come to light for the first time. Papa Oyeyemi (founder and designer of Maxivive) is one of the people who contributed to the novel. Bonne Suits, Maxivive and Alma Mathijsen have come together to bring a land that usually stays hidden to the surface. They have created a suit and several garments with drawings by Mathijsen. Onderland comes to life on cotton. The eerie pencil lines bring you to a place where plants can grow out of your skin, where Furby’s pop up unexpected and where flowers bully everyone who dares to pass them. This Thursday, we kick off a 4 day pop up at Warmoesstraat 67. Join us from 18-21h or come on by in the weekend so support the cause and score a beautiful garment.

Our suits are part of the project “Wearable Stories” by Collectief Raven. The project will be on display at State of Fashion 2024: Ties that Bind from this weekend June 1st until June 30th. "Wearable Stories” is an experiment on the power of fashion and what it means to be worn. Collectief Raven collaborates with four young individuals who are under supervision or institutionalized at health care facilities to design jackets that tell their personal stories: The Lena, The Soumaya, The Jelle, and The Infinity. In Dutch, the words for “to wear” clothes and “to take care” of somebody can both be translated as ‘dragen’. Sometimes, being able to express yourself and feel proud in your clothes can have the same effect as being cared for. As the designers of The Lena, The Soumaya, The Jelle, and The Infinity, could not be on the stoepshoot, we asked their caretakers to wear their suits in their place. For Lena, Soumaya and Jelle their mothers are modelling. For Infinity, her therapist Anneke was so kind to pose in the picture. The outer side of the jackets literally represents their external appearance, while the inner side reveals their inner selves. These jackets prompt reflection on one’s inner and outer selves while simultaneously giving a platform to the unique personal stories of young people who often remain invisible in society. At Bonne Suits, we always strive for our suits to be a means to an end, giving space to people and emotions, and extending a hand to those who are undervalued or unseen. That’s why Collectief Raven’s project “Wearable Stories” aligns with our founding principles.

The Patta x Bonne Suits is releasing this Friday. To celebrate Patta Exclusive Sneakers BV.’s 20 and our 10 year anniversary this year, the friends reunite for a reintroduction of the legendary Patta x Bonne Suits. Bonne and Patta founders Edson and Gee have been friends and collaborators for almost the entire span of both brands’ lives. To honor their friendship and mutual inspiration, the new collection and campaign is an ode to the city of Amsterdam and a tribute to one of their first iconic joint projects. The Patta x Bonne Suits two piece is handcrafted from 100% organic cotton, comes in black and is adorned with the grey Patta script P logo throughout. Patta x Bonne will be available this Friday at 13:00 CEST on patta.nl, bonnelife.com and in Patta chapter stores in Amsterdam, London, Milan and Lagos and at Warmoesstraat 67, Amsterdam.

Centraal staan de verhalen van jongeren uit zorginstellingen die normaal gesproken niet zo snel gehoord worden. Om hen een stem te geven werkten ze elk aan een jas met het Amsterdamse modelabel Bonne Suits, waarin persoonlijke waarden, gevoelens en ervaringen tot uitdrukking komen. Een draagbaar verhaal. De jassen kan je bekijken en aandoen waardoor je even deelgenoot wordt van hun persoonlijke verhalen. Een hele intieme ervaring.
