Connecting today’s low-income consumers with the dignified choices of tomorrow.

Over ons

We believe the best products should be available, where they matter most. Fulfilling aspirations and needs is key. Through the power of entrepreneurship, every new idea is turned upside down and inside out. Until we find the right innovation, right for low-income communities. From startups to multinationals, we help organisations to design and deliver commercially and socially viable business models. Our diverse team of global innovators and entrepreneurs, bridge the gap between private and development sectors. To influence trillions of small purchasing decisions, our approach is simple. Through early consumer engagement, we discover and design the products people want. Through novel distribution models, we get these products to the consumer. And through creative behavioural change, we generate the pull, essential for driving product demand. A series of intricate steps, leading to real impact for the Base of the Pyramid. Whether it's more income, cleaner water, better food or light at night. We know how to do good, while doing well, in a market of more than four billion low-income consumers.

    Partnering for impact and equity

Last week, I had the pleasure of joining the BDCG NETWORK Inclusive Market Systems Symposium where thought leaders, policymakers, private sector players and other key stakeholders came together to explore the critical role of market systems in fostering resilient and inclusive economies and share insights, best practices and innovations for vibrant and resilient market systems. I was curious to unpack how we can leverage market systems development to unlock markets sustainably and inclusively for those at the base of the economic pyramid. All too often, people living in poverty are excluded or disadvantaged by the way markets operate. MSD is a coherent approach to understanding and intervening in markets so that they perform more beneficially and sustainably for those at the BoP. My takeaways i) Systemic Thinking Interventions should always think about scale. The initial interventions are a starting point leading to larger impact. By focusing on broader systems that shape market behaviour, practitioners are able to address root causes of market dysfunctions and drive long-lasting inclusive change. ii) Facilitation Empower local industry. Think beyond providing inputs. Interventions should be careful not to kill small industry by offering free inputs. This approach requires striking a balance between addressing market gaps and allowing local actors to drive and sustain change. Adopt a facilitative role, not a direct delivery model iii) Sustainability Think about change that lasts. Think about exit at project design. Design impact that is adaptive and resilient to shocks (agility). Empower local actors to sustain outcomes. Align with local incentives. This together with sharing practical cases and best practices made the symposium all worth it. Thanks to all the organisers Bopinc #BDCGSymposium2024 #inclusivemarketsystems Micro Enterprise Support Programme Trust (MESPT)

  • The Nairobi Circular Economy Stakeholder Forum! 🌱 This afternoon at the Novotel Hotel, Westlands, we’re thrilled to participate in the Second Nairobi Circular Economy Stakeholder Forum with Growth Africa. The event coincides with our recently launched second phase of O-Farms to our audience a few months back, where we’re preparing to work with entrepreneurs to advance circular innovations. During a panel discussion on “What have we learned in the acceleration of circular innovations in Nairobi?”, our colleague highlighted the need to rethink how we value resources: “By tapping into waste streams and creatively using resources, we unlock immense value. But without dialogue and impact measurement, we miss opportunities to transform ecosystems sustainably.” One standout example shared: A company in Uganda moved to using the waste they were generating after uprooting the mushroom beds to make briquettes. They use it to boil water used to treat their mushroom bed, moving away from using timber and charcoal. It’s been a delight to gain insights and explore ways to strengthen our work with SMEs through O-Farms and other circular programs. The journey toward a sustainable future continues!

🌍 Reflecting on our team week in Kenya 🌱 This year, our Global Team Week in Kenya was more than just meetings. It served as a powerful reminder of our commitment to #Strategy2030, focusing on expanding access to food, increasing clean energy, and reducing waste. Through our work at Bopinc, we’re dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities in these areas. We came together with one purpose: to align, connect, and grow as a team. From strategic planning to #teambuilding, we reflected on our work and contributions to the bigger picture. Using our Culture Map framework, we deepened our understanding of our diverse perspectives, finding ways to collaborate seamlessly across regions and leverage our strengths. 🌿 The Power of Teamwork At Bopinc, collaboration is key. Our week together emphasised the importance of building relationships—not just as colleagues. We visited inspiring partners like Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), WEEE Centre, SNV (Realms), and O-Farms (IKEA Foundation) and saw firsthand the impact of our work. These visits—whether in agribusinesses turning waste into value or youth-led innovations—reinforced how cross-border collaboration makes change possible. 🏞️ Growth Through Connection Team building wasn’t just about fun; it was about learning, exploring, and discovering new potential within our group. As the year winds down, #teamweek2024 reminded us to support each other and continue making Bopinc a place where everyone thrives—both personally and professionally. We’ve come so far, with so much more ahead, one step at a time! #TeamWeekKenya #Strategy2030 #Bopinc #TeamBuilding

  • FACAN: Transforming Nigeria’s Potato Farming with BFC Accelerator Support 🇳🇬 The Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria (FACAN), a leading organization supporting agricultural growth across Nigeria, is working to boost innovation in the potato sector. With support from the #BFCAccelerator, FACAN is introducing high-yield, disease-resistant Irish potato varieties tailored to withstand local challenges. They’re also improving seed quality and tackling potato losses by introducing diffused light storage facilities, a simple but effective method for storing seed and ware potatoes that requires no energy.🥔 🌾 Together, #FACAN and #BFC are building a model to reduce post-harvest potato losses, helping smallholder farmers to earn more whilst strengthening FACAN’s sustainability. #PotatoFarming #Nigeria #Agriculture #SustainableFarming #SmallholderFarmers
