Dutch entrepreneurs-agenda of the future Last week I had the honor of talking to the chairman at MKB-Nederland Jacco Vonhof and director Leendert-Jan Visser. Together with other young entrepreneurs (Marije van Beurden & Rick de Keijzer) we discussed the Entrepreneurs-agenda of the future that MKB-Nederland is currently finalizing and is going to present to our government. It gives me a lot of excitement for the future that individuals with different backgrounds, businesses and interests share the commitment on a better, fairer and cleaner Netherlands 🇳🇱. The goals of MKB-Nederland fit greatly with BrewRight’s mission to circularize the food-grade CO2 industry. I look forward to continue collaborating with them to signal to our government what SMEs like us need to change The Netherlands for the better. I therefore advise every young entrepreneur to reach out and contribute to MKB-Nederland’s entrepreneurs-agenda of the future! What a night it was, last Friday's Final of the dsm-firmenich Kickstart Prize 2024. It had everything from killer pitches, tough jury questions and exciting speakers. Congratulations to ExCulture for winning the Prize! We also extend our congratulations to Carapace and BrewRight as runner up and winning the Encouragement Award. The jury admitted that determining the winners involved rigorous deliberation. The remaining six finalists departed empty-handed, but laden with a wealth of new skills, connections, and experiences. Their relentless dedication to pushing the boundaries of innovation has been evident. Undoubtedly, they will play a pivotal role in reshaping the landscape of biotechnology. Let us accompany them on their endeavors and collectively propel the essence of innovation forward!   Also a big thank you to our amazing jury Oscar Goddijn, Kirsten Herben-Steinbusch, Adam Burja and Cindy Gerhardt.

Today marks our one year anniversary as a startup 🍻🎉 as its Aprils fools🃏 I will try to make a joke out of it. The joke being that a lot more time goes into starting a venture than initially expected. My co-founder Inge Vermeer described it perfectly: “having a startup is like sprinting a marathon 🏃♀️trying to set a world record 🥇without prior training”. I think every founder can relate to this statement 😂 Even though we are officially registered for a year we have actually been working on BrewRight for 2,5 years ⏱️ Rather than focussing on what we have done so far I want to focus instead on what we are doing and the goals of this year 🥅 🔬Research and development is central this year by collaborating with reseach institutes and SMEs. We want to start prototyping next year on our hardware and software element in order to get there we are writing subsidies ✍🏻 to align with the reseach trajectories. Getting into the biotech space to show the scalability and potential of our solution. Our mission has an additional angle: to support the biotech industry in the transition to net zero 2050 📈 - We have joined the global accelerator Nucleate during this program we have 2 new team members who joined us: Amardeep S. and Niels Fjerdingstad and 4 mentors: Manoj Patel, Wanwipa Siriwatwechakul, Jacob Goodwin and Thiemo Woertge - We are participating in the DSM-firmenich kickstarter as one of the 9 finalists thanks Bouke de Jong, Cornelis Mijnders and Planet B.io for inviting us! Validating our business models with more market research 📝 into alcoholic fermentation and precision fermentation. Alleen voor kleine brouwerijen - waar bijvoorbeeld speciaalbieren gemaakt worden - was hier nog geen oplossing voor. Daar brengt BrewRight verandering in. Drie enthousiaste masterstudenten van de Wageningen University & Research bedachten een CO2-opvangsysteem voor kleine bierbrouwerijen. 2 days ago I turned 28 🎉 I spend it with the people I saw the most this year - my co-founders Dakar Schlemper and Inge Vermeer and our intern Timman van Oeveren My birthday is a moment to reflect on the year (professional and personal). Usually, I feel like I could have done more. However, this year is the opposite. I am so proud of the progress we are making and how much we have grown as individuals! 🙏🏻I am happy and thankful for: - the opportunities coming our way and our cheerleaders 📣 StartHub Wageningen - all the support we get from our advisors/mentors: Gitte Schober Anja Sinke Giuseppe Olivieri Tim M.J. Nijssen - the team environment we are creating; a new type of startup: no stress, young, bold and passionate about making impact. Where we take charge of our own future - defining the core of our business. Our last University Pitch Session of 2023 is a wrap! On Wednesday, 32 handpicked startups from University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Wageningen University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Leiden University & Delft University of Technology had the opportunity to pitch their business to a panel of more than 70 VCs and corporate partners. What an experience Slush was, the more time I had to reflect the more I miss it. It’s the perfect sum up of what startup life means to me. ⏱️Work hard: 3 weeks prior working 60 hours a week to prepare as a team by making connections, setting up meetings, preparing questions, updating the website and pitch decks. 💪🏻 Divide and conquer: me and Inge Vermeer going to slush and Dakar Schlemper manning the fort at home making sure when we came back work continues smoothly. ✅ Experiencing new things: checking the box on a typical slush stereotype; pitching BrewRight in a sauna to investors. ⭐️Personal growth by being open and willing to learn and go the extra mile: 📈Learning from all the experience of the founders and applying those new insights into practise during VC meetings. 🇳🇱Joining the Dutch delegation an amazing group of like minded people. 💁🏼♀️Being inspired by a lot of female founders that are impact driven. 🎥 Finding the time to film footage for a tv program. 🎙️Joining my first ever podcast (even tho there were issues with the recording). ☕️Surviving on breakfast coffee and 5 hours of sleep everyday. 🎮Rewinding after long days of hard work with Mario Kart or sauna sessions. ⏭️Taking home lessons learned for next year: prepare even more, go to the side events, make time for more extracurricular activities.
