🚀 Summer Update: Exciting Developments at Carteman Ventures (Deep Energy Technology Fund)! 🌞 We are thrilled to share the latest updates from our portfolio and upcoming ventures. Here's a snapshot of the exciting progress and opportunities at Carteman Ventures (Deep Energy Technology Fund): 🔋 Newton Energy Solutions has closed their latest investment round, securing €2.6 million from new investors like Fair Capital Impact Fund and a group of experienced informal investors. Existing investors such as TNO, and Carteman Ventures (Deep Energy Technology Fund) also participated. The funds will drive the development and market introduction of the NEStore, a cutting-edge energy storage solution utilizing hot water with minimal energy loss. 🌱 Collie is our new investment. Founded by two visionary professionals, Collie integrates regenerative -farming with sustainable energy production (agri-PV). Their solar-powered 'collar' for cattle optimizes grazing efficiency, animal health, and farm operations while reducing emissions and maximizing sustainable (solar) energy generation. Pilot projects are underway , and we're excited about the next generation of Collie products! 🏠 Potential New Portfolio Company: We're investigating a promising technology that combines solar energy generation with insulation for the built environment. This innovative approach aims to alleviate grid congestion and boost sustainability. 'Kennis en startups genoeg, maar de innovatieketen hapert: TNO gaat zich nadrukkelijker richten op het versnellen en versterken ervan.’ TNO spin-off Nearfield Instruments haalde recent 135 miljoen op. De grootste deeptechinvestering in Nederland tot nu toe. Het is een voorbeeld van succesvolle opschaling die nog te weinig voorkomt in Nederland. Het percentage startups dat in Nederland doorgroeit naar succesvolle scaleups is veel lager dan in bijvoorbeeld de VS. Ook groeien ze minder hard. Startups genoeg, maar de keten als geheel hapert. Waar komt dit door en welke impact heeft dit op Nederland als innovatieland? CEO Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi ging hierover in gesprek met Bert van Dijk van Het Financieele Dagblad. Hij schetst enkele noodzakelijke voorwaarden om het innovatieklimaat te verbeteren: ✅ Nederland heeft per jaar zo’n 7 miljard private investeringen in R&D extra nodig om op 3% van het BBP te komen en zo internationaal aansluiting te vinden, niet eens bij de kopgroep, maar bij het peloton. ✅ Het is (dus) essentieel het ondernemers- en investeringsklimaat te verbeteren. O.a. door het verminderen van de regeldruk, het aanpakken van de hoge energieprijzen in Nederland, het oplossen van verschillende vormen van congestie (elektriciteitsnet, wegen, huizen, scholen, etc.) en het voorkomen van juridificering van de transitieopgaven. Maar ook het omarmen van de belangrijke rol van venture capital, private equity en hopelijk pensioenfondsen is essentieel voor het financieren en stimuleren van een goed functionerende innovatieketen. Deze rol wordt in Nederland - in tegenstelling tot bijvoorbeeld Silicon Valley - sterk onderschat. ✅ Vergroot het aantal beta- en techniekstudenten. Nederland leidt Europees gezien bijna het laagste aantal beta- en techniekprofessionals op. ✅ Meer focus in het innovatiebeleid en de wijze waarop de innovatie-investeringen worden ingezet. Focus waar we goed in zijn en comparatieve voordelen hebben. Bij voorkeur inzetten op cruciale punten (control points) in internationale waardeketens. Nieuwsgierigheidsgedreven fundamentele wetenschap is in Nederland van oudsher goed vertegenwoordigd en sterk. #trots moment voor Newton Energy Solutions met 3 installaties in 1 week met in totaal 7 NEStore warmtebatterijen. Installateur Sjaak Schipper gaat zorgen voor een strakke installatie bij: Brandweer Schiphol waar 3 x 30 kW NEStore de tapwatervoorziening gaat voorzien. Schiphol moet van het gas af, maar krijgt geen netverzwaring. Warmteopslag is hier de oplossing. 2 particulieren kopen beide 2 NEStore warmtebatterijen. Één voor tapwater uit eigen PV en één ter ondersteuning van de verwarming. Hiermee gaan deze trotse eigenaren het einde van #salderen met vertrouwen tegemoet, en verlagen per direct terug lever kosten. #duurzaam #netcongestie #pvpanelen
