I am thrilled to announce the publication of our latest collaborative research between the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and IFP Energies Nouvelles, Lyon, France, in the Chemical Engineering Journal (CEJ)! Our paper, titled "Eulerian Multi-Fluid Simulations of Local Liquid Distribution in a Bed Packed with Cylindrical Particles," is now available online. Link: https://lnkd.in/gcrSQ6xD Throughout the research and preparation of the manuscript, my colleague Devesh Saxena, Dr Yacine Haroun (IFP Energies Nouvelles) and my esteemed supervisors, Prof. Vivek V. Buwa (IIT Delhi) and Dr Frederic Augier (IFP Energies Nouvelles, Lyon, France) provided invaluable guidance and support. Their expertise, encouragement, and dedication played an essential role in shaping our work, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to them. It gives me great pleasure to invite everyone to peruse and delve into the findings presented in this study. Key insights from the work: 1.) Simulating local liquid distribution in beds packed with cylindrical particles is challenging due to the complex void topology created by randomly oriented particles, which existing closure models struggle to capture. 2.) To address this, we proposed a modified mechanical dispersion closure model that accounts for the orientation angle of cylindrical particles, enabling more accurate simulations of liquid distribution in these beds. 3.) Our proposed Eulerian model, which simulates the impact of particle orientation on liquid distribution, was rigorously validated against high-speed imaging measurements performed utilizing the manually created packed beds. 4.) For validation, we created two packed beds by manually arranging approximately 3,000 cylindrical glass particles in distinct honeycomb-like structures: a horizontal orientation (θ = 90˚) and a vertical orientation (θ = 0˚). #ChemicalEngineering #CFD #PackedBedReactor #MultiphaseFlow #Research
