At the end of November, Chikara Cambodia celebrated its 5th anniversary and the grand opening of the Chikara Innovation Centre! 🎉 On the second day of our celebrations, we had the grand opening of our Bamboo Innovation Centre. We celebrated with heartwarming speeches, lovely songs sung by our Chikara students, and delicious food organised by our partner Eco-Soap Bank. 💚 A heartfelt thank you to all Chikara students, school partners and their kids, local partners, and guests from the Netherlands for contributing to the festivities. In collaboration with FACCH, Chikara has entered into partnership agreements with primary schools from the vulnerable communities of Prasat Bakong. Children of these schools collect empty plastic bottles and return them to their schools. The schools store these bottles in big bags which are collected once a month by Chikara. This plastic is then recycled into learning materials for these schools. For every big bag handed in, the school receives a soap ball that can be attached to the soap pins attached by Chikara at the sinks. ♻️ The Chikara concept of ‘Soap in return for plastic waste’ works effectively and so everyone does their bit for hygiene and a better environment! 🧼 #chikaracambodia #cambodia #soapinreturnforplasticwaste #recycle

Chikara Cambodia celebrates her first lustrum on 23rd November this year. We are proud to show you the final result! 💚 After the final delivery of our new building, we will look further into the possibilities of sustainable and eco-friendly solutions around the building, for example for cooling, greening, collecting water, ventilation and perhaps even solar panels. Today is the annual World Cleanup Day, and this day has been added to the official United Nations Calendar of International Days & Weeks! This day is to inspire our societal change in attitude towards waste. 🙌 Since the launch of this day, people from more than 200 countries and territories have engaged in removing waste from our environment. This year's campaign slogan is 'Make Room For Life!', to remind us to fight against the smothering amount of waste. Nature faces daily defilement that endangers all life. It has been brewing for a while, but finally we shall reveal one of our biggest projects! The past half a year, we have been building a small center for education. During the first years of founding Chikara Cambodia there has not yet been an occasion to find our own location. After being a guest at Spoons and FACCH for four years, the opportunity finally came to construct our own building!👷 Having our own building is an important step to further grow Chikara and give our students the feeling of ‘their own space’ where they can work, consult with each other and where they can receive guests. We will also develop an inspiring and informative center for solutions to climate and environmental challenges for the communities. Thank you FACCH and Spoons for the wonderful years that we got to spend with you! Today is Global Recycling Day! 🌏♻️ Chikara Cambodia collects plastic bottles at primary schools in communities around Siem Reap.
