Leave a legacy🌱 A #legacy is what lives on after the congress ends. A lasting impact that benefits the destination, society, and future generations, whether big or small. At Congress by design , we believe that every event should leave something meaningful behind, something that benefits the community and lives on. That’s why we’re committed to supporting multiple legacy projects. One of those projects, from the recent European Society for Vascular Surgery Annual Meeting, was donating the plants used at the congress to the Fundacja IB Polska foundation. This foundation works tirelessly to support individuals facing social exclusion, and we’re happy that these plants have found a new home with them. Preparation in Denmark for #ESSC2025! Our project manager, Inge Bommezijn, recently had a successful site visit to Aarhus supporting the European Social Network with the organisation of the annual #ESSC conference, where in 2025 we will welcome around 600 participants. A big thank you to Marie Herborg Krogh and her team from Aarhus Municipality for their warm hospitality and perfectly organised program. Inge was impressed by the beautiful city and its unique venues, each with its own story. Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights: 🏛 𝗔𝗮𝗿𝗵𝘂𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 – the grand setting for the welcome reception. 🎶 Musikhuset Aarhus – the main conference venue, with a plenary stage so spacious that we can create a soundproof breakout room right behind the curtain! 🚂 Comwell Hotels Centralværkstedet – a former train repair center where you can still spot pieces of rail at the entrance. ⛵ Aarhus Internationale Sejlsportscenter – located in the harbour's new quarter, this venue is home to Denmark's Olympic sailing team and can be transformed into an exciting event space. Venue hire fees are reinvested into training programs—an incredible initiative with an even more incredible view! To top it all off, Inge was surprised with a cycle taxi ride back to her hotel, thanks to the lovely Tina, a local volunteer. At the VGF our colleagues enjoy sharing their knowledge! This week Joyce Wittelaar, CMP had the honour to give a presentation at the Congress by design Academy. In 45 minutes, a personalised talk took place at the office of Cbd. We started with a fun short quiz about the VGF. Did you know the VGF was initiated in 1986? And that we have supported conferences with 150 to 4,500 participants in recent years? Of course, the team collectively passed the quiz by sharing their knowledge and expertise! The main focus of the session was to cover the ins and outs of the application procedure and how the VGF can best be applied for. A nice introduction for the new colleagues and a wonderful way to refresh everyone’s memory. But also valuable for our team to understand the challenges PCO’s encounter and how the VGF can support the conference organisers in the best way possible. Did you know? 🌍 While over 98% of the population has access to an improved water source, only 93% have access to a safely-managed source and 86% to a piped network. In urban areas, water is typically available once a week and less than once every two weeks in rural areas, with availability dropping even further during the summer. Over a year ago, we partnered with Stichting IRC, International Water and Sanitation Centre to host the #AllSystemsConnect2023 Symposium at the World Forum, The Hague. This event significantly raised awareness and action towards global water, sanitation, and hygiene issues. We successfully accommodated an increase in attendance from 400 to 767 participants, reflecting the growing importance of sustainable systems. The symposium's impact extended beyond the event, fostering growth and connections among systems leaders. We are proud to have played a role in this initiative.
