🧑🏼🌾📈 Farm smarter: use data! 🧑🏼🌾📈 🌱🥔 In this recently published article, Puck Mulders and colleagues show how the use of data can help farmers to optimize their potato planting. Farmers have to make many decisions, which can be a challenging and time-consuming task. Using a case study of a large potato farm in the Netherlands, the authors have successfully created an optimization model, the use of which can lead to a significant profit gain for farmers. 💡This study shows the power of combining optimization techniques, data science, and agronomic knowledge to provide farmers with practical, locally relevant guidance. It is a perfect example of the great potential of the cooperation between these different domains! A special thanks to Jacob van den Borne for sharing his data and making this research possible. 👉🏽 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eW-YkF3Z Menno van Zutphen Paul Ravensbergen Roy Cobbenhagen Edwin van den Heuvel René van de Molengraft Pytrik Reidsma Duarte Antunes Maurice Heemels

📣 Deadline 15th February for our (all-rank) Professor openings in Systems and Control 🎓 Final call for our #Professor openings (al ranks) in #Systems and #Control at Eindhoven University of Technology in our Control Systems Technology (CST) TU/e section in Mechanical Engineering at TU/e! Be quick if you are interested, see for application link below! 😀 International Federation of Automatic Control
📢 (Assistant/Associate/Full) Professor positions in Systems and Control 💥 We are happy to announce that we have #Professor openings (all levels) in #Systems and #Control at Eindhoven University of Technology in our Control Systems Technology (CST) TU/e section! The CST section is among the largest and high-impact research centers in systems and control. It is uniquely positioned in a key high-tech region, the Brainport Eindhoven (https://lnkd.in/dcRyrSAS), which is home to many leading companies. As such, it is a unique section in which both state-of-the-art fundamental and applied research is performed and deeply intertwined. We prioritize mentorship and career development, providing young professors with strong support and collaboration opportunities. Currently, our section comprises 13 full-time and 17 part-time faculty, and over 50 postdocs and PhD candidates. 💡 From a frequency-domain Willems' lemma to FreePC 🔎 In our most recent work, which is available on ArXiv (see link in comments), we bridge the gap between state-of-the-art data-driven control, and widespread frequency-domain data and expertise, particularly, in the high-tech industry. In particular, we formulate a version of the celebrated Willems' fundamental lemma based on frequency-domain data and use it to develop (among other relevant applications) a frequency-domain data-driven predictive control (FreePC) scheme (complementing the well-known DeePC approach, a time-domain data-based version of #MPC). We demonstrate the benefits of FreePC and the use of frequency-domain data in several numerical case studies. This work is the result of great collaboration with my colleagues Koen Scheres, Sven Nouwens, Victor Dolk, and Maurice Heemels at Control Systems Technology (CST) TU/e. The support of the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant Proacthis is greatly acknowledged!

Supervisory Control Theory (SCT) traditionally relies on enabling or disabling events, but real-world systems often require direct intervention. This paper introduces forcible events, allowing supervisors to force specific actions and preempt uncontrollable events. The authors define forcible controllability and present an efficient algorithm to synthesize maximally permissive, nonblocking supervisors. A case study on a manufacturing line demonstrates the practical benefits of event forcing. By bridging the gap between theory and implementation, this work advances SCT toward greater real-world applicability. Graduated! 🎓 A few months ago, I successfully defended my thesis on “Linear Parameter-Varying Feedforward Control for Compensating Flexible Modes in Wafer Stages” in collaboration with ASML, officially marking the completion of my Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at TU/e within the research group Control Systems Technology (CST) TU/e. I want to thank both my daily supervisor Johan Kon and company supervisor Jeroen van de Wijdeven for the invaluable guidance and interesting discussions throughout my thesis. In addition, I would like to thank Tom Oomen and Marcel Heertjes for their guidance throughout the project. After graduating, I took some time to travel through Asia, experiencing new cultures, perspectives, and unforgettable moments. Now, feeling recharged and inspired, I am excited to apply my skills in the high-tech industry and take on new challenges!
