Meet Iranga mw’Cibebe, member of a women #saving_circle in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 🇨🇩 . "The collaboration between Kula and ASSIT has truly transformed our lives as women in the saving group. Before, we faced many challenges accessing clean water and supporting our families. Today, with the water taps installed and the pigsty project, we can provide clean water for our children and generate income to improve our households. This support has empowered us, giving us the confidence to manage these projects, work together as a community, and create a better future for our families. We are deeply grateful for your belief in us, as it has shown that when women are given opportunities and resources, they can become powerful agents of change in their communities." With 15 other members, they have all been saving, and last year agreed to put their individual savings together, in order to get a substantial additional amount of capital in their #community_chest, for the sole purpose to invest in a clean water installation 🚰 . This was exactly what they wanted: #access_to_clean_water, because so many of their children are affected by water-borne diseases. In less than 6 months they've mobilised the larger community members to build the water installation. Now they have 6 water taps, sell on average around 100-150 buckets (20 liter) of water. All 500 community members benefit from this! What a #local_leadership, true #community_changemaking! Is it this simple? Yes it is. Join the movement, like, share, donate, volunteer, do it yourself. Meet Abel, #community_changemaker in Uganda 🇺🇬 . When we focus on growth of wellbeing of the whole community we see the same elements back in the approach: -1- #saving_as_a_group and agreement to use individual savings for the whole group or community -2- investing in #productive_means (very often with additional capital on top of savings) -3- sticking to the plan as a group -4- growth in #sustainable_farming and #gardening practices -5- attitude and #mindset_change as a #community as a whole -6- #community_led, #needs_based and rooted in local reality. Of course, also, on individual level there's more income, more knowledge, better housing, empowerment and ownership. As long as there's no extraction of value out of the community, and the consumers are also producers of many of their own essential services and products, like food in Abel's case. Get inspired by Abel's journey here: https://lnkd.in/gM5AmH6Q Thanks Abel and Raising the Village for sharing your story, and Shawn Holden Cheung for your leadership! NuttyVillage has garnered attention for its innovative approach. Farmers associated with this #village_venture have already seen their incomes rise by 30%. It promotes natural farming, producing products like 🥜 peanut butter and energy bars, organic and preservative-free. Nutty Village is empowering smallholder farmers to benefit from the value-added products derived from the peanuts they grow. What has set Nutty Village apart is its business model. It operates on a blended finance model, creating #producer_groups of women farmers providing them with the knowledge to #farm_sustainably (organic cultivation methods). It’s not just a venture, it's a system that builds a #community. Nutty Village products are born from the ground, nurtured by the community. But the true essence of the venture is best captured by Aman Kumar: “Our goal is not just to sell a product, but to create a system that benefits everyone — from the farmer to the consumer.” This approach illustrates three key success factors for growing shared prosperity: -1- value-add stays in the community -2- agency in the community (female peanut farmers know how cultivate organically) to protect their natural resources -3- start selling in nearby markets Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g3iVR2Ue

"each of us has a role to play" to grow shared prosperity. In this series: part 5 - the #community_development model that can be replicated: Swavalamban Samiti. This is a committee of #local_leaders and community members who represent the aspirations, needs, and potential of the entire village. One shining example of this Swavalamban Samiti model in action is from Kainjalay Vatika, in India 🇮🇳 - captured by DRISHTEE. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/gjCEjbrY It shows the core of #self_reliance of a village. How they added value, trippled prices, grown incomes, impacted the lives of over 2000 people in their own and neighbouring communities. Key to this are: -1- an #empowering_eco_system, -2- a (self-managed) #community_fund, invested in machines and -3- a #pay_per_use #village_venture. The impact of the financial support received by the Kainjalay Vatika community has been remarkable. Not only have they met the needs of their own village, but are also servicing nearby villages. The profits earned are deposited into a community fund for future projects. Here is also a unique role to play for funders. So, ask yourself the question, what role do you want to play? What change would you like to see - and therefore contribute to? Share, comment and join the movement to grow shared prosperity - starting in left-behind communities.

With the purchase of two power tillers, the Jagoron Shikha #Mother’s_Group and Ashar Alo Mother’s Group, located in Natharkandi, Barishal, Bangladesh 🇧🇩 are no longer dependent on renting power tillers from third parties. How come? With a #community_chest entrusted in their hands, they can invest in buying their own! The area is a low-lying region where water logging persists for about seven months a year, making land utilization for crop production impossible during that time. However, during the remaining five months (dry and winter seasons), local farmers utilize the land to grow short-duration high-yielding varieties of rice 🌾 . Due to the short period available for efficiently planting and harvesting crops, owning their own power tiller is essential for the mother groups. This will allow them to work swiftly and productively within the limited time for agricultural activities. The groups anticipate to generate a significant income rise, estimated at no less than BDT 200,000 annually (= 2K euro). This income will allow them to repay the capital into their self-managed community chest. After which they continue to generate this revenue, based on a #pay_per_use_model. And their joint capital can be re-invested in growing their #communities_wellbeing. These Mother groups take agency and grow #food_security 🍚 and wellbeing in their community! Cheers to this female change leadership, what an inspiring example of #community_changemaking! Beating the consequences of the #climate_crisis for their community. In partnership with Kula and Center For Rural Service Society (CRSS) the group members receive training on how to operate this #village_based_joint_venture effectively, ensuring that the benefits extend to both the wider community and the groups themselves. "Each of us has a role to play" to grow shared prosperity. This series part 4 - the leaders of #community_ventures and buyers of their products. In just a few years a small-scale textile 🧵 🪡 producing micro-entreprise grew into a strong community venture, now exporting to Japan, the US, and the UK, thanks to sustainable technology and partnerships. How did this journey look like from 1 fabric cutting machine in 2021 to a solar-powered workshop with 17 sewing machines producing school uniforms 🥋 , yoga wear , premium undergarments and designer t-shirts 👕 ? Watch this movie about their journey from basic textile training to a #solar_powered_workshop with specialized roles, blossoming into a community venture that is not only #increasing_income but also empowering the whole community: https://lnkd.in/g79HnwYx There is also a role to play for #buyers from businesses abroad. So, ask yourself the question, what role do you play? What change would you like to see - and therefore contribute to? Approaching the new year, it's a worth to practice appreciation 🙏 . We like to appreciate this community in the Himalaya 🌄 , and thank them for the impactful practice & insights they've shared, demonstrating #local_leadership #community_changemaking. "As the sacred mantras echo through the valleys, they invite all who hear them to pause, reflect, and find peace. ... The Changpa tribe of the Changthang Plateau depend on their Changra goats 🐐 for the prized Pashmina wool that sustains their livelihoods. Yet, the region’s extreme winters, coupled with the effects of climate change, have led to increasing pasture insecurity." How are they coping? -1- assessing needs by the community and prioritize - in this case focus on survival of their herds, #protecting_livelihoods. -2- Anticipatory & #participatory_action in & by the community - in this case interventions such as stocking up feed, fodder, nutritional supplements, and insulation materials to protect the animals . -3- building #collaborations with local stakeholders so everybody understands the #on_the_ground_realities - to leverage efforts to protect the health of the Changpa people and safeguard the future of their livestock. These 3 insights are most of the time the key success factors to #community_led_development to grow shared prosperity. Thanks to the leadership in this Changpa tribe and for the support and sharing SEEDS. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gNDEAQsc

"each of us has a role to play" to grow #shared_prosperity. In this series, part 3 - the unsung role of #male_allies. To grow self-reliance in #left_behind_communities, female leadership and entrepreneurship is needed and already there. These #female_change_agents drive a powerful shift from conventional dynamics, in which men work not as heads of the system but as steadfast supporters. One of such a supportive ally role is called the Mitra’s role (in this Indian powerful model of #community_led_development). A Mitra is as a #community_connector, he is vital in creating a “haves and needs” list for the village. "...as a Mitra, my role goes beyond simple transactions,” says Ghasi Ram Patel from a small village in Chhattisgarh, India 🇮🇳, "in the Swavlamban model, I collect and analyze data about our community’s resources and needs. I get a full picture of what we have, like local crops, handicrafts, or services like carpentry, and what we need, like groceries, clothes, and supplies.” Only with the support of this Mitra role #community_ventures can thrive, and mind you: sustainable #village_ventures eliminate the need for men to migrate to cities! Read more about this role, another male ally role the “carrier,” and the unique aspects of a #supporting_barter_system here: https://lnkd.in/gqYv6kdP So, ask yourself the question, what role do you play? What change would you like to see - and therefore contribute to? Share, comment and join the movement to grow shared prosperity - financially & economically including left-behind communities.
