November 7th, I had the honor of presenting at the 12th edition of the NIEC - Norwegian International Entrepreneur Conference in Oslo, Norway. The conference brought together innovators and leaders to explore trends shaping the future of business. My session focused on trends in M&A and #Valuation, Generative AI across the M&A value chain, and Modern Investment Management. Here are the key takeaways from my presentation: - M&A Comes in Waves, Aligned with Investment Trends: M&A activities are cyclical, often corresponding with broader investment waves shaped by economic, technological, and societal shifts; - Drivers of M&A Vary by Wave and Industry: Each wave is characterized by distinct drivers, such as innovation-driven transactions in the current technological era. Industry-specific dynamics, including regulatory changes, market consolidation, or ESG imperatives, further influence M&A activity; - M&A as a Catalyst for Innovation and Transformation: Over time, M&A has evolved beyond consolidation and growth to become more and more a strategic tool for driving innovation and transformation. Companies increasingly leverage M&A to acquire new capabilities, pivot to emerging markets, or integrate cutting-edge technologies; - Systematic M&A is becoming more essential: With a 70% failure rate in traditional M&A, systemic and data-driven approaches are increasingly necessary. Internal alignment, accountability, and talent management are critical for creating sustainable value with M&A, mainly as an instrument for necessary #innovation and #transformation; - AI is transforming the M&A value chain: Generative #AI plays a decisive role across the M&A value chain, such as in #dealsourcing, #duediligence, and even negotiations. It enables faster insights by processing both structured and unstructured data and synthesizing it into actionable recommendations; - #ESG is no longer optional: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors are driving strategic M&A decisions. Companies are actively seeking acquisitions that enhance sustainability profiles; - #Investmentmanagement is evolving, driven by regulation, client demand and technology: AI-managed portfolios and funds and alternative investments are democratizing opportunities for investors. Regulation, transparency requirements and technology are shaping the future of asset management. - #Privatedebt and hybrid transaction models are rising: As non-banking options grow, private debt financing combined with hybrid transaction models offer flexibility for creative #dealmaking Sharing these insights at NIEC was a humbling experience, and I’m grateful for the lively discussions that followed. My key Insights from the NIEC - Norwegian International Entrepreneur Conference, last week in Oslo, Norway. The conference opened on a high note, with Chair of the Day, Kristian Aartun, setting an inspiring tone for the theme, "Moving Towards Mastery." Rodger Halston from the U.S led the first session with a heartfelt message on entrepreneurship and personal mindset, encouraging all to approach the world with love and kindness, reminding us to stay authentic. His powerful words: "Not trying is failure's best friend." Next, Claudia van Zuiden and Arturo Massaro I'mPossible, of Conscious World Agents introduced us to the 'MAGIC' method—Manifestation, Awareness, Gratitude, Inspiration, and Choice. The essence? Let the mind follow the heart. Frank Beckmann of GVI Investment Advisory from Berlin shared insights on "mindful disruption," explaining how tradition and innovation can harmoniously coexist. Indrani govender, founder of Ricinz Construction in South Africa, gave us a mindblowing story. From a homeless single mother to a successful entrepreneur, her journey of belief, commitment, choice, and resilience was nothing short of inspiring. Abhishek Ramavat, representing Tech AGRIM, discussed the vital need for resilient cybersecurity. He led a dynamic panel featuring Thomas Becke and Stefan Kløvning, delving into the evolving role of #AI. Hanuman Dass (Hemal Randerwala)'s presentation on the Go Dharmic movement deeply resonated, emphasizing "Love all, feed all, serve all." His call to compassion was contagious and impactful. Nalinava Sen Gupta’s capital-raising journey for iNANOD AS struck a chord with every entrepreneur in the room—a story familiar yet touching. The Embassy of South Africa's representatives Delores Kotze and Letlhogonolo Desmond Moreki, provided a compelling update on South Africa’s amazing opportunities. Dedication and love for their country shone through. Frank Lagerveld and Robert Doornbos shared insights on strategic thinking in #investmentmanagement, covering aspects like #investmentfund #compliance, reflecting their commitment to society. I had the opportunity to speak on the importance of building effective M&A capabilities, the importance of talent management and leveraging #AI to master these skills. Andrew Funk, founder of #HomelessEntrepreneur#HomelessEntrepreneur#HomelessEntrepreneur, closed the day with an inspiring talk about his organization’s work empowering homeless entrepreneurs. In summary, the day celebrated entrepreneurship, love, and kindness; Edvard Munch's 'The scream' echoed through the day as a call for compassion. The highlight? Great friendship among this incredible group of entrepreneurs, all committed to making a positive impact.
